I want a 357 in 3-4 inch range but must be under $400 including tax. Rossi has a couple offered new in under that price. I know their 92 levers are ok but are their revolvers any good? Thanks

Rossi 46102

I love my Rossi 46102. 2" snubby in 357 Mag and has the prettiest deep blue since the old "Carbona" blue. Course a 2" is only as accurate as the distance from the belly but it is a LOT of fun. The 4" is VERY accurate. Favorably compared to the Trooper III.

Accuracy with a 2" revolver is more the skill of the shooter. I can ring a 8" gong at 100 yds all day with most of my 2" revolvers. I've never seen a 2" revolver that wouldn't shoot 4-6" at 25 yards with the right person at the trigger. If you settle for pie plate accuracy at 7 yards that's what you will get.

My rossi 357 has been completely reliable and a dead on accurate revolver for the last quarter century. Parts may be a problem since theyhave changed a bit but it seems like it will outlast me for sure.

Grizz22 when I was younger I would have agreed 2inch barrel is long enough but with my eyes now I need a slightly longer sight radius. Rossi 3inch 38 I had years ago was a great gun.

I share this story as often as I can... while rossi/taurus makes fine revolvers, I have had 2, yes TWO brand new taurus .357 revolvers kaboom on me. That is brand new, right out of the gun store, kaboom, bloody face. Never was hurt bad enough to go to the hospital, but hurt none-the-less. My local dealer made it right both times, didn't have to go through taurus, but after that I refuse to even fire a taurus revolver again...

for $400 a used ruger should be in your range. I found a really nice stainless security six with a 4 inch barrel for $350, good deal but not unheard of.

yeah, I'm bashing taurus I guess... anyone would if you had 2 new ones kaboom and hurt you...

$400-500 in most places is enough for a used but great condition S&W or Ruger or Dan Wesson in 357 Magunum

What kind of ammo?

tennjed, I do not remember as this was years ago, but it was "regular" factory ammo for sure. 2 separate occasions, so it wouldn't have been from the same box of ammo either... One of them was for sure way out of time, the other one, I'm assuming was out of time as well but didn't know enough about guns to understand what went wrong...

everything on my end was 100% I assure you. I always clean new guns, always have. If I was another kind of guy, I would have raised heck with the company, I'm just happy my local dealer made it right both times.

I know they have to make good guns, otherwise no one would like them, but after 2 brand new ones in a row, I'll not fire one again. Pretty funny coming from a guy with "hipoint" for a screenname though, I get the irony.

***edit*** many years make for a fuzzy memory, but I seem to remember something about one of them had a badly damaged forcing cone, no way I could know if it was like that before or after the revolver "kaboomed" on me. You bet your butt I thoroughly examine every gun I put my hands on now though, new or not. I won't fire guns pretty regularly now, if I don't like the looks of one that a friend is here shooting, I'll just pass on their offers of firing it.

Got a newer Rossi 4" 971 made on old Taurus tools/dies after the acquisition. IMO, they are better than the new Taurus revolvers. Dead nuts accurate. 50' gets me about 2" groups off-hand. $400 will get you the revolver and a couple of boxes of ammo.

I purchased a 461 blue snubby around 5 years ago. It is a good looking gun. It's a little on the fat side in terms of concealment, and no moreso than a .44 bulldog snub. The trigger took some breaking in. Full power loads, (Fed gray box 125 gr .357 mag) had quite a roaring kick and flash. I think out of a 4" it would be more manageable. A note: don't dry fire your Rossi excessively as theyve been known to break from that. Get some snap caps to break in the trigger and practice speed loading. The S&W 6 shot loaders matches the Rossi well.
