I have a Rossi .38 model R35102, which I happen to think is a great gun, but curiously when you check out the gun online it says it is rated as a +p, however in the manual it says that shooting of any 158 grain bullets that exceed 755 fps is a no no.

Just about every bullet on the market is faster than that. I haven't had any problems with mine, but haven't shot true +p rounds....

What do you think? Strange that they would do that or what? Think the gun can handle it?

Just out of curiosity, are the 158 gr loads listed as >755 fps out of the same length barrel as your Rossi?

They don't give a barrel length...

But it would seem odd to limit the fps to 755 and then on your website say that the gun was +p.

It may be that fast, heavy loads batter the frame too much, rather than a problem with pressure. Is the R35102 aluminum or alloy framed? If so, that's probably why.

The Rossi 68-88s are not +P rated, but will handle a small amount of +P with no problem. I used to shoot a handload a LOT in a M88 of 5.0 gr Unique under a 158 gr cast SWC. It was mildly into the +P range on pressure, but that gun was tight when I sold it, no problems with it at all. Only reason I sold it is I really had no need for it. I have a Taurus Ultra Lite 2" snub that's lighter, just as accurate with some loads (seems to lead pretty bad with that cast load, though), and does about everything I was doing with that Rossi, but is a handier package. That Taurus is +P rated, too, despite its alloy frame.

I called Rossi and they advised 1.) it is a steel frame 2.) disregard what the manual says. As long as the ammo is from a mojor manufacturer then there should be no prob with the +p loads.

So far I have really liked it and would recommend it as a budget priced but good .38 snub, but having someone tell you to disregard the manual doesn't give me warm fuzzies.

Anyway, they said I can shoot +p, so I will. If y'all read about me dying remember to sue them OK.

Are you planing on only shooting +P . I shoot regular 38's and +P now and then . I carry +p But would never shoot just +P in a 38spl. In a 357 sure All a study diet of +P going to do is wear out your pistol faster.

Same as you, plan to carry the +p and shoot them occasionally. I just could imagine shooting the +p rounds at the moment of truth and the bloody gun blowing up in my hand....
