Riflvr Rossi M92 44Rem Mag .jpg

I found this little beauty at my LGS a while ago. My gun lady knows my love for lever guns and called me when it arrived. It really is a striking rifle in person with the gold accents. I have a Henry in 44mag, a Big Boy Classic in a brass frame, it is a beauty as well but the Rossi was calling my name and (forgive the pun) I pulled the trigger. If you have considered one of Rossi 's variants on the model 92 but held back not knowing the quality or functionality, let me put your mind to rest.
CBC Rossi's have great fit and finish. It functions flawlessly with 300gr flat nose cast bullets seated to proper length. Accuracy was impressive at 100yds drilling every Mountain Dew can shot at off hand. Haven't shot a real group yet, was just playing around with it.
I am very fond of brass bead front sights and had anticipated having to replace it with a Skinner blade after installing a Lyman 66 peep sight. ( Yes you will have to drill and tap the holes for that peep sight.) I was fortunate that the original front sight works well. I cannot use the Buckhorn rear sight, can't get the focus right. I replace it with a Lyman sight blank for a clean sight picture. I took the breech block safety out and modified it to appear as a plug that stays in the fire position permanently with a steel pin to replace the spring and ball that made it selective before. I also added a hammer extension from Grovtech. Sounds like a lot of modifications I suppose but in reality they were personal preference mods more than functionality mods.
When it's all said and done, I've really gone and done it now, I can't decide which I like best. Lol! So I load 260gr flat nose cast in the Henry for hunting and 300gr flat nose cast for trail carry on "walk about" that will flat hammer anything in range in the Rossi.
The Rossi 's are new to me but I would recommend them to anyone.
Enjoy the pic and my minimal advisory skills. Just wanted to share while I finally had time to share with a great group of people.
Happy shooting!

There are 3 colors of Rossi stocks. There’s a very orange stain, a very dark stain, and a red stain. Yours seems to be in between the dark and the red. Perhaps it’s the lighting. The dark is probably my favorite. The red looks incredible with brass accents though and shows grain a lot better than the dark stain.

That is one very nice looking Rossi, both wood and metal look great! Glad to hear she’s a shooter, too. And yes, the peep sight is a great way to improve the grouping. :)

I had a dark-stained 20” .357 hears ago that had some Brazilian hardwood that looked amazing. Sadly it didn’t want to feed anything, so I sold it.

My others are 16” .45 Colt and .357. These work well, but have that awfully bland red stain with zero figure in the wood. (IMHO it looks like thinned redwood stain on a plain Home Depot 2x4. My kids’ Red Ryder’s have wood like this :(.)

Stay safe.

Many of the dark ones were from the Puma/LSI era.

The gold highlights are not usually really my style (I'd be terrified of scratching it) but I have to say: it's gorgeous! Congratulations.
I got a CBC Rossi last year in .357. They're nicely made. I'd love to find another in either .44 or .45 Colt.

I would like a M92 .357 or .41.
Finding a nice shooter at reasonable price, is like hitting the lottery.

One day, maybe
The search continues.

Congrats on the find.

That's one handsome looking lever gun you've got there! The gold accents are enough to give it a customized look without being too over the top. Like what you've done with the sights as well.

I think that the wood on my Rossi M92 has more of an orange hue to it though in some places it appears to be more of a chestnut brown color, mainly noticeable on the buttstock. Some things I also appreciate with this gun is the overall wood to metal fit and the deep bluing that it has.

I have 2, .357 and .45 Colt. Slicked them both up with the Stevesgunz DVD instructions. I replaced the plastic magazine followers with SS and also built my own bolt mounted peep sight that uses an XO sights post.

I really like them. The 45 took a little work to get it to feed WNFP cast, the .357 feeds them like a greased hot dog.

That is a nice looking rifle. MY LGS has an identical one on his display rack.

My rifle appears to have a clear finish on it. I don't know what kind of wood they use. It doesn't appear to be anything like maple and not really like walnut either.

Yes, very beautiful rifle. That's funny, I took the peep off my older Rossi, as it was not installed well, and required a super-tall front sight, and replaced the buckhorn rear sight. But the buckhorns work well for me. My rifle is strictly a "walkabout" rifle, so precision is not required...although it is also very accurate.

One question though...why the hammer extension? Just curious.

OP, were the gold highlights a factory item, or did someone add them?

Haven’t seen that on Rossi’s before.

Very much enjoy my .357 model, especially after I redid the stock and added a scout scope. The original finish would come off on my hands if they were wet.

A little toward the different, but I picked up a Rio Grande 45-70 even after realizing it wasn't a Marlin.
Smooth. Feeds well. Good sights. Good price.
Well finished. Downside, kicks harder than my 1895. Tough. I'm plug going the magazine to make an Illinois straight wall single shot deer rifle. I can flip the lever after the shot even if I can't feed another one up the ramp. Tradeoffs.

Illinois restricts straightwalls to single shots? Oh, my. PA is adopting regs allowing them in shotgun only areas.
StevesGunz has an aperture to replace the safety, and a blank to replace it as well.
Buddy just got a .357, and he had a Marbles tang sight fitted, which is really the best solution.
Enjoy your rifle; try some H110 handloads.

ETA-
Papa G, had a Ruger #3 in .45-70. Neat little carbine, but it would've liked to kick my brains out. Wish there had been Trailboss back then; I could have loaded it down to something reasonable.

Hey my friend, sorry it took so long to get back here. A bout with covid and trying not to let my students down kept me busy.
Sorry someone installed your sight poorly. I love those peeps on a levergun.
I put the hammer extension on all of my leverguns due to poor feeling in my left thumb. I want to insure in the heat of the moment my thumb has a good perch on the hammer. One mishap was all it took for me to start adding it to all of them. No harm was done, just a missed shot when I thought I had it in the bag. Thanks and happy shooting!

The golden accents were on the rifle from the factory. Had to have it.
Thanks and Happy Shooting!
