My little brother is planning on buying his first gun. The only stipulations our parents are putting on the purchase is that it cannot be semi-automatic. At first he wanted a moisin nagant; eventually he wants to hunt larger game. I mentioned to him the Rossi trifecta and here are my reasons:
-He could learn accuracy and a steady, flinch-less trigger pull with the .22.
-Once proficient with the .22, he could shoot the larger barrels without getting used to a different gun.
-The general versatility of the three barrels, and
-the extra cash he'd drop on the trifecta would be recouped quickly from what he saves on ammo.

Now he's pretty excited about the trifecta. Here are the hang ups. I've seen a lot on the forums and reviews about 12" groups at 100 yards with the .243 being pretty standard with the trifecta. I went on rossi's website and saw they now have a .22/20ga/.44 magnum option rather than the .243. Does anyone have any experience with the .44 magnum trifecta? I don't have any experience with either the .243 or the .44 magnum. From what I've read, you need to be extremely accurate with a .243 to take larger game, making the trifecta a poor choice in .243, where as the .44 magnum is obviously significantly larger and packs quite a punch. My other concern is that the short length of the shotgun barrel would make it ineffective for hunting birds. What do y'all have to say? Recommendations?

One last though: my little brother is 15, but he's almost 5'9" and about 160lbs. I read that the trifecta is a youth gun, but it seems like larger folks don't have to much of a problem handling this. Is this so?

My sons have Rossi matched pairs, which are like the trifectas but with only two barrels. I've had a ball shooting their guns, so yes, an adult can handle them. If you look at the catalog, though, I believe the trifectas come in adult size configurations as well. I can't help with your grouping question, though, since I only have experience with the shotgun & rimfire barrels.
