they are no longer going to put the trail judge into production :cuss: its a .410 mares leg!
Everyone loves .410s and lever actions
this would be a great snake and gopher getter. not saying its practical but in a .410 its more practical than a ranch hand
My question is why did they dicontinue it? :cuss:

Just curious. Where did you see the cancel info at?

The Rossi USA site says it's available, but do not always believe the site as they've been wrong before.

Wishoot, why don't you go ahead and say what you think, instead of sugarcoating it? I guess anyone who's up at 5:55 AM is apt to be grumpy. I too have no use for .410 shotguns in any form, by the way. Have you noticed the proliferation of "toys" like the mare's leg in recent years as opposed to guns for serious purposes?

I have a double barrel, sawed off .410 that I have killed MANY rattlesnakes with around my ranch. I have not found anything that works better.

Nice i love the .410 for a handy gun. is yours registered SBS or did you leave the 18 inch barrel on it?

LOL!

Too true. I was up at 4:00 am with a new puppy. At 4:30, I managed to step in a pile of warm puppy poo barefoot.

By 5:30 I was in a pretty foul mood.

I'm in a better mood now, but I still don't care for .410.

May i ask why? not talking defensive purposes

I'm not a .410 fan. Personally, I view it as a boy's squirrel gun, but think some of the other gauges are better suited even for young boys.

My personal peeve is with the ammo makers, not the gauge itself. The math doesn't compute in my head as to why .410 shells cost more than the other sizes. I've heard the "volume" arguement, but still don't buy it.

It just doesn't have a place in my life. For bird hunting, I use a 12 or 20 gauge. For deer either a 12 gauge slug, 44 mag or 7.62x39. For self defense a 12 gauge with 000 buckshot or a 9mm.

I've tried to like .410. I've used it for bird hunting and clays, but my 12 and 20 gauge just do a better job.

According to down range TV they said that rossi said there wasn't sufficent interest.

I'm interested!

Giving Rossi a call at :phone: (305) 474-0401

Be tactful with them and ask if the model is unavailable.

If you give them the reasons why you would like one that adds to the others who very might well be giving the same feedback to Rossi.

A write in campaign by snail mail written in a tactful manner can help.

What's wrong with fun guns?

Nothing at all! I consider my Winchester 1894 to be a "Fun" gun and little more than that. You could use it for hunting (and I have), home defense and general plinking, but it doesn't excel at any of them IMO.

I'm not a fan of the .410 either I'm more of a 12 gauge guy and 20 gauges are for boys anything smaller I don't have a purpose for. you can buy small game/pellet rounds for just about any pistol round

That's pretty much how I see it. I've made up shot rounds for the .45 Colt -- put a sprinkling of Bullseye in a primed case, seat a gas check all the way down, fill the case with shnot, put another gas check in the mouth of the case, open side down, crimp and add a little silicone seal and it'll do about anything you would want a .410 to do in regard to snakes and other varmits.

And the beauty of it is, you load up 50 rounds, play around shooting a few and 20 years later, you still have a couple of dozen left. And then you're tempted to buy a special gun for snakes, you look at that half box of .45s and realize you don't need a snake gun.

The only Rossi I have ever owned has spent the last 30 years at the bottom of a lake.
There is a good reason for that.

I have a Rossi .410 double bbl that is my go to dove and quail gun I bought it in the late 70's and would take two more if I could find them. Love the low recoil and since I load my own the cost of shells is a non issue. I do however agree that there is something wrong with the pricing of factory ammo for these guns. They use 1/3 of the materials needed for a 12ga and cost 4 times as much. Seems to me they are gouging the kids and some of us older folks pretty hard. Sure am glad I bought my MEC it has paid for itself many times over.

I'm sure the issue with cost is due to the amount being sold. I would imagine a heck of a lot more 12 gauge shells are sold compared to .410.

Just my .02 cents worth.
