Rough rider

Its listed as a top selling revolver... I have owned a few , personally.. I have not had a problem with any..

Before this last gun buying frenzy.. I think Ruger was planning a few options for the Wrangler .. different barrel lengths .. maybe a WMR cylinder..
Id like to see a 32 H&R option

I like the Heritage and Wrangler concept .. inexpensive America made 22 SA ... great for plinkers , woods carry .. but most of all allowing a dependable low cost firearm option.. for gun owners and want to be gun owners .. that may have very limited cash flow

It would be interesting if someone did a shooting test comparison of the Roughrider, Wrangler, and the Chiappa 1873.
The test would consist of firing say 5000 rounds of .22 LR through each (100 boxes) and see what happens.
Keeping track of accuracy, out of the box sight regulation, and parts breakages and wear.
If a part breaks or wears out it would be replaced and noted and the test would continue.
If a particular revolver seems to have problems right out of the box then another new one could be substituted.
It would no doubt be very revealing and perhaps surprising.

For you HRR fans, I spotted this video that you might like:

Handled a Heritage and Wrangler back to back......the Ruger was stunningly better.

Here's hoping they do some more options on it

It just so happens I'm doing a head to head comparison of the 4 5/8 HRR and a Wrangler right now. Same round count, cleaning schedule, everything. No Chiappa though for this test.
I am currently at 600 rounds through each.
Both were NIB at the start of the test.
You can search for the original thread and detailed write up. The title included "Head to head comparison"
I will update at the 1000 round Mark.

Hey, I think that's great.
Will you continue it up to 5000 rounds?
1000 rounds is only 20 boxes of ammo each.
Certainly 1000 rounds will reveal some useful information, but I don't think that it will reveal what the long term wear, parts breakage and problems would be with budget revolvers with zinc and aluminum parts.
I think that 100 boxes of .22 rimfire represents what many people might fire through these plinker revolvers over a lifetime of use. (Not trying to spend your money for you. Just saying. :))
Of course, some people would shoot more and some people would shoot less, but most shooters tend to burn up a lot of ammo in .22 LR plinker handguns and rifles.

There are those who report getting Heritage guns that shoot offside or too high or low, but there seems to be far more that feel their money got them what they wanted for it.

Could be. For the money, it might not be a factor for plinking.
I suspect that the vast majority of Wranglers shoot pretty close to the point of aim though.

I suspect that's true for the HRR, too. At least, it seems to be.

Obviously, I couldn't actually say how many HRR revolvers have this problem without any ironclad evidence.
However, while you do read that a number of HRR owners report that their revolver is shooting noticably away from point of aim, so far I haven't noticed any Wrangler owners complaining of this.
It would be interesting to hear from them. Obviously, some of them must be off a little.

The video that I included in my post #53 shows a very nice looking HRR that has this problem.
Look at 6:10 to 6:40 in the video. This revolver was shooting 4" to the left at only 10 yards (30 feet)!
At 20 yards (a typical bullseye distance) that would be 8" to the left!

In my experience with shooting more than a few fixed sight revolvers over many years, about 4" is the maximum error that I encountered at 20-25 yards.

I've got a Rough Rider with the 6.5 barrel along with the 22WMR cylinder. I love it. I will never get rid of it. It is such a blast to shoot. I only have two gripes with it: the manual safety (so dumb and ugly), and it's poa/poi are always hard for me to determine/remember.

It's one of two guns I got for under $100, and I don't regret it at all. It goes nice with my Henry lever action 22lr. Cowboy guns (single action revolvers, and lever guns) are so cool.

I rarely shoot 22 mag through it, but I have a little stash if I want to. I figure it's better than .22lr if it needed to be pressed into service.

I'd actually like to get another one, the 3 inch barrel birds head grip with mother of pearl grips.

I have also been eyeing up Heritage's big bore rough riders as well.

My original post was from Oct. 27 2019.
I was mistaken the title was" Honest apples to apples comparison".
I just went back and reread it. It was a very thorough initial write up but it looks like I better get shooting so I can give an update.
