how would you load say a 357 or 44 with a lead round ball? I know it would be a pain, considering the fact youd likely need wads but have no real idea on how.
Just thinking a reallly light practice/plinking load

I have an old Speer Reloading Manual that gives a gallery load for a .44 Spl (or .44 mag) using a .433 round ball with 2.8 (3.4 in the 44 mag) grains of W231 for a book vel. approx of 488 (550 in the 44 mag) f/s. No wads required, just seat the ball at the mouth of the case at the balls largest diameter.

I am sure I saw something similar for the .38 or .357 before, but it wasn't in my old Speer manual.

Good luck with National Bullet Co.!

I have been trying to get an order from them for the better part of 5 months.

And it isn't like this is a small order

First it was we haven't run that order yet, then our lead order hasn't come in yet.

I finally told them to refund my money. Haven't heard from them about that either.

I have been dealing with them for a long time and to be treated this way is not right.

I hope your experiences with them will be all right but I am looking for a new supplier.

Doesnt look to good for national, asked them a really basic question on cowboy load performance and nothing, not even an automated "someone will reply to your email in a day or to" most places send.

Still just a thought, make and interesting bunny load or even a short range coyote load, or woodchuck load.

Note. A triple-ought buckshot just happens to be .356-.357 in diameter and weigh about 70 grains. I have used them in .357 cases and have even loaded TWO with 4.0 grains or so of bullseye. (NOTE!!!!!!!!!! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK-UNCONVENTIONAL LOADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Patterns pretty well up to 20-25' or so.

More specifics-answer to your question. I did not use wads at all. Just seat the ball so that a LIGHT crimp can be applied just over the larger diameter of the ball (ball seated just barely over half way into the case). One ball and a LIGHT load of bullseye or some other shotgun powder like green dot or red dot are surprisingly accurate.

I have some commercial loads in .357 called multiball they have 3 round balls in each shell so i would say you could probally experiment with something like that starting off with light loads

Using Round Balls

As a Police Firearms Instructor teaching the FBI shotgun course some students had difficulty seeing where their expensive rifled slugs went. So as a Saeco Co man I made round ball molds and chose one to fit in a 12 Ga wad drilled a hole and pegged some pieces of flourescent yarn to the ball and placed my invention in to the wads.

Marksamship improved greatly and the officers said that those tail feathers sure could fly.

I also crimped balls successfully into pistol cases as described in this thread.

I still have 9 sizes of Saeco bullet molds .320 to .451.

I just size normally and most of the time skip the flaring of the mouth...Critter beat me to the 000 buckshot, though...as I use these in a Contender single shot I don't bother with a crimp...a few grains of blue dot and you got a right nice snake charmer load.

I also got some syringe plungers that were .357-.358 dia...just slide 'em into a 38 spec primed case and have some fun...really loud cap gun. :D

and if you really want to shoot something cheap, you can enlarge the primer holes on old used brass and use parrafin wax. You need to melt the wax, put it into a pie pan and let it mostly harden, then punch the case into the nearly hard but still warm wax and there you go, primer propelled wax bullets.
