I do have a very good camera (this is my cell phone), and I will try to wipe it clean and take it outside to get some "real" pictures. It looks alright, but that other Colt is something special......or a great photographer!

Yours look really good, I can see reflections in it. Is it more black than the other blue one?
I think I would prefer a gloss black finish though the other blue gun is absolutely stunning.

Yes, is is very black. You can see your reflection in it if you hold it right, but I was wanting a more 'blue' hue to it. I sent this thread to Brent at Colt's custom shop to see what he thinks. I'm also interested to see if the other Colt was done by them.

You're right, those are bad pics. The gun looks good, considering the pictures, obviously there are finger prints all over it and the lighting sucks. I'd love to see it wiped down and photographed with a decent camera and good lighting. I'm sure your Hi Power looks good normally but that picture doesn't do it any justice either.

I'm sorry that you're disappointed with the way it came out. If you wanted it to look like the gun in the pictures posted earlier in the thread you should have sent those pics to Colt and told them that was what you wanted. As far as the color of the bluing, the deeper it is, the blacker it is. My Clark Meltdown Colt Compact has been polished to a mirror finish but the blue is deep and black. Of course, every gun will take polishing and bluing a little different than the other, it's not an exact science.

WC145, I'm going to take my wife's billion dollar camera and get some good pictures this weekend and post them, along with the Hi Power.

Here is what Colt's custom shop manager said in a PM -

"I think that's all in the photo taking.... Same polishers I have had, bluing salts haven't changed, equipment hasn't changed. Only thing I will tell you is it changes over time as it ages, it will get more of a blue tint. Bluing changed from the Python days but it has been a long time since any process change. You can try to renaissance wax or a light polish with flitz to bring out the shine.
Brent"

I'm looking forward to seeing good photos of it. I use Fitz Cleaner, polish, and wax to maintain my polished guns but just spraying an old tee shirt with any gun oil and buffing it out good will bring out the shine. Make sure you find the good angles for your pics, makes all the difference.

And as far as the gun itself goes... use it. It was built to be shot, now it'll just look that much better on the range.

If you love the look and have the money then do it. Colt made a little over 4K of the o1911, WMK, or "blue" repos and 4K of the o1918, WWI or "black" repos. Those I have.

Then came the ANVIIIs of which about 7500 were made and you still see those new in gun stores for about 1K. They were also the black oxide like the o1918s.
