This rifle is brand new, it comes with a 16" barrel. I have a Nikon tactical M-308 scope on it. What range can i expect to get, accuratly, out of the 16" barrel? If i change it to the 20" barrel what yardage can i expect. I will be using this for deer hunting and i usually harvest deer anywhere up to 500 yards. This will be my back up rifle to my tried and true.

I have called RRA and the girl that answers my questions is not helping much because she doesn't know. Has any one any imput on this? I was thinking with this 308, AR i should be able to reach up to 500 yards??

How hard is it to switch out just the barrels?? any specialty tools needed??

Any help is appreciated.

How was Mardi Gras? I'm an ex-New Orleanean of some 25 years ago and now a West Coast guy. I won't answer your 16" barreled questions because I don't own one. I do have an LR 308 with a 20" barrel and love it. For 500 yards, I'd probably shoot the snot out of the 16" for a while- see how you like it. I like the 20" er as it isn't hard to keep a 150 or 180 grain bullet super sonic at 700 to 800 yards. I typically only shoot b/n 100 to 500 yards any way. Only from a ballistic point of view I don't like to dump down the .308 cartridge in a less than 18" tube. A lot of people like a 16" barrel in .308, I'm just not a fan. Let us know what you think after you shoot it. Have a shrimp po boy for me.

They kac sr-25 that our ar 10 are modeled after is supposed to be good for 800 yds.

I'm not certain my comment will be of much assistance....but,

I get 1" groups at 100 with factory ammo (Federal Fusion 165gr) without trying very hard from my LAR-8. The match trigger that it comes with makes it easy. I have not, and probably never will take a 500 yrd shot. If only because I've never practiced at that distance.

One thing to consider is that the LAR-8 is a little heavy with a 16" barrel. Add 4 more inches and I think it would be a little cumbersome. I really do love it and it has become a "go to" deer rifle for me.
