Rubber grips on Single Action Revolver. Sacrilege ?

I tried rubber grips, not for me. I went from Pachmayr grips to wood from Texas Grips for my .44SBH and the standard rubber grips from Magnum Research were thrown away for Hoque grips on the .475. They are a bit more comfortable and they are not rubber, so that’s a big plus.

I have a SBH like you and bought Pachmayr grips for it for a stupid amount and are the biggest piece of crap. They look like they were carved and don’t line up had flashing and hurt worse than the original wood ones. I sure like those Texas grips. However the chance of getting them up here in commie Canada are probably not possible and or cost prohibitive. They sure look good though.

I just put Hogue rubber grips on my new to me 3 screw BlackHawk. I already had them on my new model stainless. It's rather ugly compared to wooden grips but the rubber works soooo good. I am all for something that helps me shoot better and rubber grips do. I just won't take any pictures of them in their ugly state.
Heck, if they work for you, use them and feel no shame. In my case, I can use good wood grips for full house loads (but I can count on two hands the number of 'full house loads' that I shoot in a year.) For single actions, my grip technique (pinkie under), allows the gun to rotate up and back in my hand without banging against my thumb joints. With most all DA revolvers, the gun comes back too soon and bangs those tender joints and nerve endings with wood grips no matter who made 'em, or what shape they're carved. Rod

At my age I need all the help I can get. The fat that pads your hands got up and left, the skin is dry and slick, and my sense of touch isn't what it used to be. Rubber grips make it easier to use what is left and I am going to use them until I simply can't anymore. Also troublesome is the fact that those little bumps on the grips are uncomfortable now. The first thing I do to Hogue rubber grip is remove those bumps they come with using a little half round file. It leaves a tactile surface that doesn't irritate my tender mitts and I just shoot better with them. I don't shoot loads stiff enough to need much roll anymore either. Ageing makes life interesting as you get to find ways around things that are now uncomfortable or just not doable anymore. It keeps your brain active at the least as new things just keep popping up.

I prefer shooting revolvers with rubber grips but wood grips look much better.

I have a few Blackhawks and have installed Pachmayr Presentation grips on them, even to the point of changing the grip frame. I just prefer the grip although I investigating a way to handle a wood grip that provides good accuracy without being painful.

As an aside, I do use rubber grips on my DA revolvers and semi-auto pistols where they are available.

I have Pachmayer Presentation grips on my Single Six .22, Blackhawk .357, ad Super Blackhawk .44 Mag, HAPPY CAMPER
