I've given in completely to Hogue monogrips on my 3 revolvers

  1. I bought the Ruger GP100 first and have gone back and forth between the Ruger grips (even with different inserts) and the Hogue monogrips. But, those Hogue rubbers are soooo ugly to my eyes!
  2. Bought the JM next and oh! how I like the looks of those JM-designed smooth wood grips. My dealer explained that Jerry M. likes them because the recoil "pushes" the revolver into the correct position. Uh, okay...
  3. Had a King Cobra years ago and always regretted selling it. Bought this used KC recently and if I'm going to have rubber grips, Pachmayrs look much better to my eyes.
But, the truth is... I don't like the feel of the Ruger grips, hate the way the JM grips "work" (note that my dealer shot competitively with a 625 with Hogue rubber grips), and though I missed the King Cobra, I always thought the Pachmayr grips were just too large in my hand. So, I put those ugly Hogues back on the Ruger and then ordered the monogrips for the other two wheel guns from CheaperThanDirt. And guess what? Looks no longer matter to me. They all feel right in my hand and shoot really great. Now, I might someday put Hogue or other wood grips back on my revolvers, but they better feel and shoot better than my rubber! :D

Oh, one last word on "ugly" Hogues... Only the Ruger style monogrip is particularly unattractive to me.
The others, frankly, look just fine!

This photo of my "short gun" safe doesn't show them very well, but every double action revolver in there has Hogue monogrips.

I love 'um...

Hey Joe...what brand safe is that? Are the handgun racks stock or custom-made?

I love 'em, myself. I have one on my model 10. I, for some reason I don't remember, bought a Pachmayr for my Taurus M66. Maybe I couldn't get a Hogue for it at the time, don't remember. Anyway, the Hogue sure feels better to my hand! It's got more curves, fewer sharp bends. Both are rubber and finger grooved.

I had one of the original Hogue nylon monogrips on my Ruger Security Six. That thing actually cut my hand in shooting hot loads. I took a knife and shaved the sharp edge of the grip where it didn't quite mate with the revolver's grip frame and that solved the problem, but it was not nearly as good as the rubber ones. However, if carried IWB, the nylon wouldn't stick to clothing which would be a bonus. The shape was the same, comfortable, hand filling profile without being too big and with finger grooves.

I've got Hogues on both my P85 and P90 also and love 'em.

Well, I absolutely hate Hogues rubber grips. So, if you still have the pachmayrs, I'll trade you a set of Hogues for an N frame for some Pachs?

Don't mean to be rude, but I think my post is clear that I had Pachmayrs on the King Cobra and not the Smith N frame. Also, the photo clearly shows that I now have Hogues for the Smith.

But, your intention was a good one...thanks for the offer.

Ugly Guns

Frandy, those sure are three ugly guns; especially the grips. Now, if only they were blue...........neener:

With the nice weather we've been having you need to come on back down here so we can shoot some more. Will let you try out the Guardian 32 and 380. I keep eye balling a S&W M36 at my dealer. :D

Yo flyer... Yeah, this weather is really something...70 or so tomorrow and Friday, but back to 50 for the weekend...still nice. :p

And I saw your post about the M36. I say go for it. :D

Never cared for the look of the rubber hogue's myself. But (Big But) they have grown on me as a prctical feel good shoot good grip. I use them on my double action revolvers as well as my autos. For looks and thinking the slicker wood would help with the hide peeling problem I had with the ruger grips on my SRH I got hogue Coco Bolo grips after about 100 rounds they split from recoil I contacted Hogue they said the Woods weren't meant for that and sent me a set of rubbers free of charge. They aint pretty but they sure tame the 454 I wish they looked bettyer but performance will keep them on all my guns.

I like Hogues for my L frames and Rugers. I prefer Pachmayer Presentation Grips for my N frames. Wood looks nice and I keep several wood stocks for pictures, but the rubbers are for shooting. I've finally come to realize after many many years that it's about comfort.

In general I like Hogue rubber finger groove grips, have them on my BHP, my 1911a1, my Dan Wessons and my J-frame. Where thy have disappointed me is on my S&W 19-5 2 1/2" snubby K-frame. The backstrap is left partially uncovered and the frame stands proud of the rubber on the back. This just pounds the spine of the backstrap into my hand when I shoot. I had to take them off. Maybe the wraparound rubber grip S&W made for the 519 would work on my 19. Suggestions welcome.

Bill

Tell what I like...that photo of the three revolvers next to one another. I've never seen them side-by-side. For me, the S&W looks great. Then the Colt and the Ruger.
