Well I made a knee-jerk decision and bought a used Ruger #1 in 6mm with a red buttpad at a gun show yesterday from a guy walking around looking to sell or trade. I paid $700 and I'd call it 90% condition.
I probably overpaid, but I can't find one for under $800 and most of them are calibers that are too small to hunt with. So I paid up.
Now I'm wondering what kind of ammo to use for it. My first deer rifle was a 243, by that was a long time ago. I have no idea what grain of bullet to use. My hunting is less than 150 yards and deer are average size. No monsters or anything.
So can you all remember a factory ammo that I could use until I get enough brass to reload my own? Or would I be best to sell or trade this one for one in a bigger caliber?
