A few years ago I bought a used stainless 10/22 with a gray laminate stock & black Ruger sling. Saw it in a pawn shop, liked it, price was $175, so out the door I went with my new (to me) Ruger. Now for the question: I was in a gun shop last week and overheard a conversation about an "ultra-rare" Ruger 10/22 matching the description of my rifle, and am wondering if I have something collectible? I checked all my old Ruger catalogs (back to '96, anyway) and don't see any mention of this rifle.

Any info would be greatly appreciated...

I saw a book at a recent gun show that'll show you how to turn that into a 1,000 yard sniper rifle. You might want to pick one up.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I've got a 10/22 just like that. Based on a conversation with a Ruger collector, I think this was a limited production variant made only for Wal-Mart. I've no idea of the value or collectibility, though.

Wal-Mart had some. I had my cash out and they handed me a 4473 with a piece of CARBON PAPER AND ANOTHER 4473 BEHIND IT! They wanted me to fill out and sign TWO 4473's. I told them that I'd fill out one and they could photocopy it. They said that it was against "Store Policy." I told them to stuff the pretty laminated 10/22. Made a stand for principle, but it cost me a very nice gun.
