a good deal on a 10/22?

well i was browsing local pawn shops today and found a nice newer ruger 10/22 with black synthetic stock( it was the thin stock kinda tactical looking i guess with the ruger logo). it had a tasco 4x20 scope mounted. it was priced 219, and was offered to me for 175+tax. i see from searching its pretty common to find these used anywhere from 150-200. i left it there, thinking many new guns would be rolling in here around holidays. i frequent the pawn shops alot almost weekly, and 10/22s are pretty rare there should i have went ahead and picked it up?

In Dallas, The chain store "Sports Authority" will have 10/22s on sale for $189.00 every now and then. You would think a used one at a pawn shop would cost more like $125.00, especially since they are usually beat up pieces of junk. I have yet to find a used 10/22 for less than $175.00 so I wait and just buy a new one, I am up too three of them now!

too much for a used 10/22 unless it's customized and you can see it shoot good groups. Buy new if you are spending that much.

Consider a few things.
The older stock (low contour) with the Ruger logo had an SS barrel. Depending on condition it would be worth the 170.00-175.00 price. The alternative is a new one with too many plastic parts or another used one if they come available in your area.

That's about what I'd expect to see one like that priced for around here really. Most of the standard blue/hardwood stock used one's I've seen lately are about $150.00 in good condition. Stainless would probably be a few bucks more. Toss in the scope, you're at $179.00, but that's assuming you'd want that particular scope. If you don't, well that not a plus anymore.

No Big Favor

That price isn't doing you any special favors.

Tbe Ruger 10/22 makes a nice gift and all - I've given several of them as gifts to kids and friends... and have a fistful of them myself.... but it's a bit much for a used firearm that really doesn't have a collector value or anything like that.

Ruger 10/22 is a wonderful tool - but common enough at gun shows and such that it's not hard to find a used one cheaper than this one. And outside of downright abuse, they just don't wear out - so I'd keep looking if bucks is a major issue. With Christmas coming soon enough, I'd be watching the sporting goods chain stores and other big retailers.

175 for a good condition used is a decent price, it is getting very hard to get the deals we used to. and considering the quality of the brand new models, it is worth it.

I got a new one at Bass Pro Shop for 149.99 about two years ago. It came with a 3x9 RedHead scope.

$175 isnt out of line for a SS in good shape.....thats about what most pawn shops around here want for similar guns. Most here ask 90% of new cost if its in any kinda decent shape.
If it was a blued/wood gun I myself wouldnt go $175 but since its stainless..
Id probably go back with a $100 bill and a 50 and put them in front of him and see if he bites ..... it never hurts to ask

I don't shop Walmart but I still like the stainless 10-22 with 22" barrel I got there a couple years ago.

Checkered stock and "recoil" pad... It's a pretty rifle.

I think I paid 189.00

those are now 239 new, and they are the new, improved painted model, no more stainless, just paint.
