The last 2 times I have been out my 10/22 has had the same problem.

I will fire the first round and it will eject the casing and put in a new round. When I go to pull the trigger...nothing. I have to manually rack back the action to "recock" the gun so it will fire. It fires fine after I rack it...thenm the same problem. I have to "recock" manually by working the action everytime I fire it..

I thought it was ammo yesterday so I tried some CCI Mini Mags today...same problem still.

Both sets of ammo are 8 plus years. Wouldn't think the CCI's would have went bad though. I cleaned it between the two times I used it and oiled real good before today and the problem remained.

Anyone have any experience like this before or have any suggestions.

The pin that holds in the trigger group has walked, and the rifle is failing to reset the trigger. Pull it from the stock and reseat your pins. Put a little tape over them if they're loose.

Was the trouble when my rifle went bolt-action, at least.

Thank You. I'm gonna disassemble tonight for a good cleaning and I will do this. Can someone expound how to do what the above poster said (new to rifle disassembly.

Really noobish question here so go easy...I was always a handgun guy.

If I disassemble the gun and leave the scope attached...I won't have to sight in the scope again right?

Correct. all you have to do is take the stock off and the pop off pins, its harder to explain than to do.
Awesome. I already watched the disassembly video so I'm good there. I have a confession to make. I have never fully disassembled any of my rifles for cleaning. I didn't know it was necessary. I feel much better getting that of my chest. Now that I know I don't hae to resight the scope in I will do it....I promise. Thanks guys.

The dirtiness inside probably is most of my problem. Thanks again. I've learned more here in 1 month than in 10 years.

I had that problem once and it turned out to be that after I had cleaned the trigger mechanism thoroughly that I had gotten carried away with oiling it and had oil on the sear and hammer. When the rifle fired the bolt came back (cocking the hammer) but the sear wouldn't hold the hammer back. Rubbing alcohol and a q tip fixed it right up.

Ammo will last a lot longer than eight years.

Honestly, I wouldn't do a full take down. I've heard stories about how dirty .22s are, but even after running thousands (tens of thousands?) of rounds through my 10/22 and ruger MKII pistol there's been only a small amount of grime down in the trigger mechanism. Not nearly enough to justify complete dis assembly. You need to remove the barrel band and the stock screw on the bottom of the rifle just ahead of the trigger guard, then the receiver and barrel should rock up and free of the stock. From there you can inspect the position of the pins that run through the rifle and hold the internals in place. Make sure they are all seated dead square. If they're loose, a little bit of scotch tape on either end of the pin will hold them in place. Worked for me.
