My 10/22 is a tack driver with no mods I'll say go for it. 5k rounds through it and the only problem it has is shooting with cheap mags it doesn't care for them, but that is to be expected with any gun.

Uh......you don't by any chance happen to own some Ruger stock, do you? :D

Ive put 12k-15k rounds through mine, only problem ive even had is cheap ammo (duds), and cheap mags (not working). No parts have been replaced although I might start swapping out some stuff just for fun here before to long. You wont find a better 22 for your money. It was my first gun and is the one gun that I dont think ill ever sell.

your 10-22 must of gotten lucky out of the box cause mine is new in june and it hates tacks, and a lot of cheap ammo, cheap butler creek mags, and yes i no i can change all of this if i want to spend the money. but im 40 and this youngster is 14. i have both 22s and then some. and for a 14 year old kid with little to no money its the rem. REALLY its the marlin 60. but it dont have the kid appeal that a mag type does.

threepairs12 i had my first 10-22 back in the early 80s i sold it in 96 to help pay for a trip to the fiesta bowl national champion game. NE.vs FLA. i thought i could just go buy another one someday and it would shoot just the same. wrong. im on my 4th and final one. i think they were a better gun back then. just my opinion. PS we blew Fla. out. so i have no regrets. gladly give you a gun today for the sears trophy tomorrow GO BIG RED

new 50 round ram-line rocks. ammo= cci velocitors for the ruger=$6.00- 50 count. rem 597= rem,thunderbolt=$1.75 50count. marlin 60 eats every thing

be careful on any used auto. if it looks beat it prob. is. no way that you would be happy with the marlin 60. its faster to reload, will eat any thing you through at them. but they dont have the mag. and at 14 that prob. important. but there cheap and you could use the rest of your money for a nice little scope with see through scope rings.

Rant

I got my 10/22 for $54 on sale at Wolco in about 1977. It has taken a lot of squirrels and a couple of rabbits that did not know enough to not stand still. Countless targets have also fallen in their tracks from this mighty 22.

It has fed anything I have loaded into the mags. The bluing is long gone. The stock has several nicks from riding in the gun rack of my Honda ATC 110 on hunting trips.

This gun has been taken out of the closet by two buglers and left on the bed twice. Once when I still lived at home and once when my wife and I first got married. I guess it was not pretty enough to steal. I am glad I have not had to replace it hearing all the problems of the newer ones.

Sorry for the rant but this thing has been a part of my outdoor life for the past 30 years and counting.

what if i buy a marlin 80 100$ dollar USED and sorta beat up on gun broker?
As someone who also has an extremely limited gun budget ($500 a year) I would say stay away from that. If it doesn't work, it will take away a significant portion of your budget, and you might not even have enough left for a gun that does work. Even if it does, you must figure out the cost of repairing it, and FFL transfers.
Here's a new model 60 for $190. (but I'd look at gun stores, because you'll still have to pay FFL transfer costs if you buy using the internet)

So the old marlin would probably be at least $150 after FFL costs, shipping, and cost of repair. You don't know if it's mechanically sound either. If you are going to buy a used one, look at a reputable gun shop (not a pawn shop), and make sure it's mechanically sound.

what is ffl? how much would a remington cost when it all said and done?

any of you have a rem 597 for sale? less than 150?

If you don't want a camo 597, next time you go to Wal-Mart, ask to see their "special order" gun book. They can order you most anything you want. The standard stock I guess is the green/gray plastic one. The camo ones are usually a little less expensive because they're promo items.

this ? has been on my mind poppeye. how come your on the THR during school hours? if your 14 shouldnt you be at school right now?
