What is the practical use for this cartridge. Looking for a plincker and there is lots of the ammo available. Seems a little on the light side for coyote though. What is max range with ths round.

I use .204 Ruger on groundhogs.. 518 yards was my furthest kill. Ground hogs blow up on impact.. most times.

It will surly take a coyote down. Use the 40gr bullet if you want a heavier bullet.

Its not for plinking.. get a .223 for that. Unless youre going to reload the .204 Ruger.

The .204 Ruger is a laser beam.. 100 yards aim at the target..200 yards aim at it.. 300 yards aim at it. Over 300 yards aim just a little higher :)

to me, this is a round that some one like myslelf (60 years old) has no use for, I use a .17hmr to do the same job, then step up to a .22-250. the shooting media has built it up, if you got the money, get one, if not stick with what already works.....I as an old shooter aint gonna piss of money on a round like this....other existing rounds will do the job.....to each his own.

If you like to shoot a lot and want an outstanding PD/varmint rifle, take a Tikka T3 .223, screw the barrel off, get the action blueprinted and screw a 20 cal. barrel on it (Lilja has the barrel specs already documented and ready to build for the T3). Use Reding S dies with .27 bushing to neck down cheap 223 brass. It's called a 20 Practical thought up by a Vancouver guy named Warren and built by Weaver Rifles in Peyton Co. Shoots beautiful for well under $.20 a round (don't count the $.10 for the brass) but it's a wildcat so you have to reload ammo. I can't figure out why Ruger built his .204 on the .222 mag case and not just a necked down .223 or 5.56mm round. This one could be commercialized except someone would end up stuffing a 223 round in it and blow it up. Lawsuit!!

Weaver built me one and I can't stop taking it to the range and printing tiny little groups. May have to have a new barrel before I get it to the PD town.

How would a 22cal chamber in a 20cal throat? Like trying to put a 30-06 in a .270...?
.

The bullet could be set back in the case when the bolt is closed. That would create a not to pleasant situation if fired. I don't know if the .22 neck could be squeezed into a .20 throat without a lot of resistance.
