I Ruger 22/45, blued, 6" slabside barrel. It is stamped target on one side and stamped competition target model on the other. It is not stamped U.S. Gov. I have been given a couple of stories on its origins. One being that it came through an accurazation shop somewhere, the other being that it is an identical version to a 22/45 the military trained with to simulate the full size 1911, .45. It does have a little more muzzle flip than other simular .22 semi-auto pistols which I have tamed with a Tasco PROpoint red dot. It is an extremely accurate shooter with a great trigger. A little unusual for a Ruger factory trigger. The serial # is 220-949xx. Any info on this pistol would be greatly appreciated. email: [email protected]

The history of Rugers 22/45 doesn't go back as far as you might think. It's production began in 1992. Since it didn't come out till 92, the Army has not used it since they did not train for using a 1911. As far as other service groups go, I don't believe they did as well, and I don't see Special Forces or Delta having trained with this, nor heard of it. So I would rule that rumor out.

The reason it is not stamped Government, is it was never in the governments hands or serialized for government use. There were Ruger 22 rim fire handguns that were manufactured for military use as you may have seen the silenced 22 handguns for tunnel rats and other covert operators.

Lastly, as far as the rumor that that firearm went through a customization shop, I would rule this out as well. If you look at other pictures of Ruger 22/45 handguns that are slab-side, they also have these markings, target on the left side, competition target on the right.

I do believe these are great pistols though. Accurate out to fifty plus yards in the right hands, cheap and fun to shoot.

In previous research on this pistol in approx. 1995, I found some info giving a value of this pistol being $250.00. If the same pistol were stamped U.S. Government, it would be valued at $650.00. I still have not been able to find catalog info for this pistol with the 6" slabside barrel. I've only found listings for the 4.5"slabside or the 6" bull barrel. Evidently the Gov. used these pistols for something.
