So, I will be turning 21 in a couple months and, naturally, I wanna get a pistol. The ones I have narrowed down to are the Ruger 22/45 MK III, CZ 75B (in 9mm or .40 S&W), or the Taurus 1911.
My main question is: which one?
Ruger: Pros: accuracy, price, cheap ammo. Cons: no power, looks weird.
CZ: Pros: accuracy, decent power. Cons: more expensive than the Ruger, and also more costly to shoot.
Taurus: Pros: great power, looks great, it's a 1911. Cons: most expensive and most expensive ammo, least accurate.

I have shot pistols before, but I can't say I've put more than 1000 rounds down-range. I really like the feel and kick of the 1911, but 9mm's are good as well. The .22 would be the cheapest and honestly most accurate, but I think the fun-factor would be diminished by the lack of kick.
I will not be concealing any of these. I don’t go to the range a whole lot, but I definitely do like shooting. I feel that all of these are top-of-the-line pistols; even the Taurus seems to be an excellent choice from what I’ve read. It’s just the aspect of paying 40 - 45 cents per trigger pull… not very appealing to me.
If you have any other suggestions, go ahead and list them, but I think I know my guns well enough to already have ruled out pretty much all other choices. However, the ones that were close runner-ups were the Glock 17, Colt 1991, and Colt XSE.
The things I am considering are: price, cost of ammo, accuracy, reliability, durability, power, and looks (although looks aren’t really that important).

Thanks!

I would go with Hanno's suggestions.
And id be very suprised if the PT1911 wasnt just as accurrate as the Ruger.I have one also and most other owners ive heard from all agree its usually one of thier most accurate guns, unless they own Baer or Wilsons.
I want a .22 badley also just to shoot the cheap stuff, but that ruger looks so odd its just not a gun id wanna own.
The Taurus PT1911 is a well liked and has a good rep,but the costs of .45 isnt cheap. The lowest i can get them at is $21.99 for a box of 50.
9MM can be had for $13.99 locally, and get the .22 conversion and shoot till your finger falls off.
About accuracy,i feel most guns today will outshoot thier owners much more often than the other way around.
So start off as cheap as you can and practice as much as possible. And then you deserve an expensive gun and ammo, other just having the money to buy one and wanting it.

Interesting points. The thing about the Kadet conversion is that the Ruger costs less than the conversion. The Kadet is about $400 while the Ruger stands below $350 MSRP.
Personally, I think that I like the 1911 the best followed by the CZ and then the Ruger. But man, being a starving college student really puts a wrench in what I can afford.... :/

If you haven't done so, go to a local gun shop and handle all three. I recently sold my Ruger 22/45 to a fellow forum member. It was a very nice, accurate pistol, it just didn't "fit" my hand. The CZ does. Find the pistol that fits you best.

FWIW, you can get a CZ 75 for around $500 and a Kadet Kit for around $340. The great thing about this setup is that you can take your 75 and Kadet Kit to the range and shoot 9mm and .22 by simply changing the slide. That is what I started out doing with my CZ 75-SP01. I liked the Kadet so much, I got a CZ 75 SA as a dedicated base for the Kadet.

Good luck with your search. I know money can be hard to come by at times but as my grandfather used to say - you only buy quality once.
