After a lot of research and advice from people here, I think I've settled on the Ruger 22/45 as my first gun... I'm looking at the P4 and the P512-- both the same except the P4 is the 4" barrel and the P512 is the 5 1/2" barrel. What are the pros and cons to each?

Thanks,
--Mike

I just bought the short one. Similar sight radius as my 1911's. Felt a little better balanced in my hand.

If I don't like it...I can always add a Paclite.

No real pros and cons. The longer one will have a longer sight radius which will make it easier to shoot. I guess it depends on what you want to use if for. Pick up both and see which one balances in your hands better. I have a 5 1/2in slabside and a 6 1/2" tapered barrel model. I like them both.

I'd go with the 5.5" barrel. Longer sight radius mean a little easier to shoot accurately. They're usually the same price as the 4" barrels, so I bought the longer one for mine.

Good luck. I'm sure you'll enjoy that plinker either way. Great training tool, too.
