Looks great! I have the same pistol and the stock frame was just too thin for my hands. I did mine myself...there's no going back once you start cutting the frame haha.

I used OEM Ruger grips because at the time most all 1911 style grips had the 1911 cutouts.

Of course with the new RP model that's the one I'd buy today.

Thanks. I thought about all the possible options I had...hand files, drill press using an end-mill bit, dremel, etc.

In the end what I did was tape off all the areas NOT to be cut with a couple layers of masking tape so if I did get off course I would have a LITTLE margin of error if the top layer of tape started getting abraded away.

Then I used my Dremel (with the long corded, smaller handle attachment) and sanding drums. I might have used a smoother drum shaped stone towards the end...I don't remember. Big drums for the middle and some smaller drums on the ends.

It might sound reckless but I use a similar tool nearly every day (I'm a dentist) and so I'm pretty comfortable with fine motor stuff like this.

Probably not as clean as someone could do with a mill or even a skilled person using a drill press with a good jig, but it got the job done and I've had no problems yet.

Happy Valley Utah eh? I grew up in Ogden but now live in AZ.
