Ruger .308 Help (should I buy it)

My buddy is selling his ruger M-77 2 Mark 2 Rifle, it has synthetic stock, stainless steel barrel, no scope he's keeping it. The caliber is .308, and has only been shot about 30 times. I have done some research around town and gotten about the same prices about 350 for the max price. Please Help. Is this a descent starting rifle.

i am hoping to buy the rifle. but he told me to see what it was worth and then we would go from there on buying it.

I have that rifle, I like it fine.

It is solid, shoots straight. From a slung up, prone position, 9 power scope, I have been able to shoot a 10", 5 shot group with Federal Match ammo, at 500 yards. I would say that is just fine.

Trigger is good, a typical Mauser type action. The stock "floats" enough to allow a good, solid sling use as well.

No complaints, except that "Ruger rings" are expensive, if you have to buy them, @$80 or so, and not as solid as other $80 rings. Also, they are tough to find in 30mm, if you get a scope with that size tube.

I would not buy it again, unless it was a very good price. I prefer semi-auto, military pattern rifles now, M1a, FAL. But, I would not sell the Ruger, unless really pressed to.

Good luck

It's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

Check out either gunbroker or auctionarms and look for similar auctions (completed listings) where the deal actually closed. Sometimes the final prices there are a little inflated, but they should give you some indication as to what people are actually paying for things.

the ruger is in pretty good condition, he said its only about two or three years old, and has only shot it about thirty times mostly sighting it in. he said it doesnt come with the scope but i'll see about the rings probably will leave the rings with the gun.
