DISCLAIMER: I am a Sturm, Ruger stockholder.

Dry fire of the 345 without a magazine inserted will destroy the magazine interconnect safety and cause -- problems. Ruger service/parts folks are very understanding and, in my case, provided a replacement part at no cost. Do not dry fire a 345 unless an EMPTY magazine is inserted.

IMO, this is a design flaw that Ruger needs to fix ASAP.

If they want to use a magazine disconnent, fine... but make one that won't break key parts if the magazine is out.

Something I found out After I purchased one

A little peeved that they would allow such a major design flaw get into production.
Still, Colt SAA owners learned to carry five in the cylinder to compensate and don't complain overly much over a firearm that has been around for well over a hundred years.

Read the manual.

Why would they fix anything since it says in the owner's manual -- big as life -- not to do exactly that?
To be honest, I did it myself a few times, but then a girl friend of my wifes bought one and told me the salesman had advised her about it.
I checked the literature and sure enough, a warning not to...

The problem is, people that own more than one type of pistol are not always going to remember this quirk when they bring the P345 out of the safe. Very few other makers seem to introduce this design flaw, so one has to remember to treat the P345 with extra care due to in my opinion bad design.

It would probably save Ruger money in the long term to just fix the issue on all new guns coming from the factory, rather than repair all the guns that go back due to owners lack of diligence.

I hardly ever dry fire my guns anyway so this isn't really a big concern for me. I've dryfired my P345 a grand total of maybe 10 times, always with an empty mag inserted. I RTFM. I like live fire much better personally :)

The original manuals did not include this warning. Ruger revised the manual to include the warning after the problem became apparent.
