Hi all,
Question:
I have a Ruger 357 mag Blackhawk and I want to start shooting 38 Special in it at the range to save $$$ on the rounds. The price difference is quite a bit,
at Wal Mart anyway. Thanks for any input.
Hey, glad I found this site!!!!

I have a Ruger KGP 100 .357 and I almost exclusively shoot 38 specials.

Check the Handgun forum....

shoot mess out of them

floydster: shoot the mess out of .38's. Before you shoot .357's clean the cylinder and chamber. Lead build up with the difference. .38's are shorter and leave a deposit that cause aggravations.

Fouling is no problem, as long as you remember to clean it out before you switch back to 357s.

One thing that you WILL find different is your point of impact. You'll have to readjust your sights for the weaker ammo.

I was going to post a few hours ago but didn't see any question...but I figured it was regarding fouling using .38's in a .357.

You can go back to .357s anytime, however you may find the .357s wanting to stick in the cylinder due to the fouling from the shorter .38 cases :)

The late Jeff Cooper said once that people that worry about shooting .38 Sps in .357 mag guns are "nit pickers".

I have 2 .357s, one a Taurus 66 and the other a S&W 66. Both have had countess .38s fired through them. A brush run through the cylinders at the range before firing .357s and a good cleaning with solvent at home will keep problems from occurring. Grab that Blackhawk and a sack full of .38s and head for the range
