Trying a Ruger LCR in .38 Special

The 327 weighs an additional 3.5 oz, and with 32 H&R Magnum it’s a pleasure to shoot.

Any ultra light 38 or 357 will tend to bite. Mr. Newtons laws still apply. I once fired one of those mystery metal S&Ws with 357s. Felt like catching a line drive bare handed. I'll confine my shooting to steel guns of reasonable weight. My new Cobra is a favorite.

i moved away a 38sp and a 22wmr lcr, happily kept a 22lr. i cant really clinically explain why i prefer 38sp snubbies by s&w and taurus, i just do.

Yet, I must admit that that short-grip snubby is appealing.

The full-length Hogue grip makes a big difference compared to the standard or boot grips in recovery management. Also, getting the .38 Special version that is consistently mismarked as a .357 Magnum will help, too.

Felt recoil in these guns is more about the grip than the load. I loaded some 140gn +p for my .38 LCR. With the stock grips it had the "line drive with bare hands" feeling. Switching to the boot grips made a huge difference, actually comfortable. Your mileage will vary, but finding the right grip will make all the difference.

The 357 has a steel frame the 38 is aluminum

The LCR 357 is my carry gun, I load it with 38+P Jacketed for self defense, I load up a light 357 load for range practice, I shoot it one handed, so there really isn't much recoil. I wouldn't want to shoot full magnum loads out of it.

I also have the LCR in 357. I load it with 38 +p. I changed the grips to the larger Hogue , they make it much more comfortable and controllable with my heavy 158 grn loads.. It is a great carry gun .

I put about 150 round through my LCR yesterday at the range. About half was 158g SWC hollowpoints +P. The rest was 110g Hydra Shocks which were supposed to be low recoil. There was only a slight difference in recoil between the two, and neither was punishing. I think the LCR is easier to shoot than a J frame. There really is nothing to complain about recoil wise with it. It is very easy to manage.
