Ruger 77/17 Hornet Mag has Longer COL vs 22 Horn?

I have an older 77/22 Hornet. Somewhere in my readings I read something to the effect that the new 17 Hornet mags allow for a longer COL and can be used in the older rifles with the classic 22 hornet cartridge. Does this sound right, or did I dream it up?

I have both the Ruger 77/22 Hornet and their 77/17 Hornet and both magazines measure the same front to back (inside the mag).

The distance I get with my calipers is 1.805".

The max I can load a 40 Gr V-Max in my 77/22 .22 Hornet mag is 1.808. I don't have a 17.

Thanks very much for that info. Is the shoulder above the rim at that depth?
