Ruger 77/22 accuracy?

I am reading through the Ruger catalog, I probably will end up buying a 77/22 bolt as a sibling to my 10/22.

Just was wondering; I really liked Kaylee's CZ bolt action, it was accurate and easy to shoot. I would pick a CZ over the Ruger normally, but as I have a 10/22, the logistics are such that I'd like them to have swappable magazines.

Is it a free floating barrel? How's the accuracy? Reliability? Extractor? The catalog doesn't say didly squat..

While it's a .22LR and so I'm not really all that worried about the lockup etc, was just wondering how good the lockup is, and how many degrees it is to lockup.

I do however, like the Ruger's 3 position safety...

Any information would be great.. (The website, like the catalog, sucks, no information on either...)

Ruger lists different part numbers for the standard 10/22 magazine (BX-1) and the 77/22 magazine (JX-1). So , they may not interchange? Seems to me if they were exactly the same Ruger would have given them the same part number.

Are you sure they use the same magazine?

I could have sworn that the last time I bought one for my 10-22, there were seperate ones for the 77-22.

The mags will interchange and work----its the contour of the bottom that's different.

Had a .22 mag version that would give 1'' groups at 100 yds. It was a good gun with no problems---it just got traded for something I wanted more.

My son won one shooting pins at the old Second Chance Bowling Pin Shoot. We put a 2x Tasco scope on it, and he's shot some tight groups with it at 50 yards. CCI Green Tag shot best for him of the .22 ammo we had on hand.

I have a walnut stock 77/22. They are not a free floating barrel, they have a pressure point at the forend.

I installed the Volqaurtsen sear and did a trigger job per a schematic I found on line and made an oversize trigger pivot pin to remove side to side play, the trigger is now at 2 pounds and breaks like a glass rod with no creep.

I mounted a Leupold 3x9x33 EFR scope in Burris Signature rings, which by the way is an awesome scope.

I also removed the action and sealed the stock with polyurethane, from the factory it looked like bare wood.

From the bench at 50 yards I am averaging 1/2"-5/8" 10 shot groups with the cheap bulk pack Federal holowpoint and the CCI Mini Mag, and 7/8"-1" 10 shot groups with the CCI Green Tag, Remington Subsonic and the Federal Match. This is a squirrel rifle so the groups are good enough for me and its preferrence for the cheaper ammo is just a bonus. I am going to experiment with different pressure point amounts when it warms up and see if it helps any.

I like my 77/22 (blued/synthetic); it's got a Leupold 2-7x RF Special scope, and I can hit soda cans at 200 yards all day long with it. I'm considering sending it to Connecticut Precision for some work, but since it does just fine in stock form, I haven't bothered yet.

Mine also prefers cheap ammo (WW Super-X hp's).

I had a 77/22 when they first came out. It was blued with a walnut stock. They are real pretty rifles. I had a Leupold 4x compact on it. While it looked good, it didnt shoot all that well. My out of the box 10/22 with a cheap, no name 3x9 scope on it would out shoot it everytime. At 25 yards the 10/22 would put 10 rounds into a group you could cover with a dime, the 77/22 wouldnt hold under a quarter. The only fond memory of that rifle is, it was the first (and last) time I got to see a 22 fly through the air. It was late in the afternoon with the sun to my back and shooting at 100 yards, I could actually "see" the bullet fly at around 75 yards in my scope. Sort of like the way you see a bb fly. I still have the 10/22 and it still shoots like a bitch, got rid of the 77 though.

I have a Ruger 10/22 and a 77/22, because I also wanted to have interchangeable magazines. I enjoy my 77/22 which has a 3-9 X 32(?) on it. I remember getting some nice groups for me with it a while ago, but since then I have changed some things and have not had time sight it back in. I also put a Volqaurtsen sear in it, because the stock trigger pull was horrible, but it was an easy fix.

The 10/22's are serious shooters for cheap cheap cheap.. My friend grouped the same home (10 shots!!) at 25 yards with my 10/22, that's with williams firesights, and not a scope!

I will read more about the 77/22, but I know at least the CZ is VERY accurate, on Kaylee's... I can see the bullets go out, as I can see the jetwash from it.... very cool visual effect.

I have the 77/22 Stainless heavy barrel, scoped with a BSA Contender 8-24x44 target scope. $425 with rings.

With nearly every brand of ammo I've run through it, it'll shoot .5" groups as long as you can keep pulling the trigger.

With Eley Club XTRA i've shot many .25" 10 shot groups. It's a very nice action, smooth and fast. All I've done to it is install the 2lb Timney Sear&Spring kit...which gives it a terrific trigger.

Not a finer .22 for the money, IMHO.
