This rifle is on sale at 4 winds technology for $199. Buds has it for about 350.
I'm not familiar with .243, what can you tell me about it? Good for medium range target shooting(100-300 yards)?
And what about the ruger American rifle itself? It does not come with a scope but says bases are included. I'm not very familiar with scopes, rings and what all...

Buy all they have and have them shipped to me. I can't even come close to that price wholesale. The American Predator in 6.5 CM was one of the most accurate rifles that I have owned out of the box. The 243 is a very accurate round, good for punching paper out to several hundred yards and I have taken a truck load of whitetails with it without any issues. It is one heck of a deal.

the 243 win is a very good cal it will keep up with the 6,5 cm in the right rifle and setup with the best bullets it can shot flater then the 6,5 its perfect for what yards you said there is not much target ammo for 243 but at 3oo yards it dony mater. the ruger american is a very good rifle for the price. u ant go wrong for that price

Better as a hunting rifle. The standard RAR isn’t set up for range work; not barrel, trigger, or stock. $200 is a great price and I would encourage you to pick one up as a fun shooter or to hunt game with (should that interest you) but it won’t ever be a one-hole rifle.

For a scope, I’d pick up low Weaver style rings and put another $200 into a Burris Fullfield or Leupold VX-2 if you can find one. Shouldn’t need more than 12X on the top end.

I think the Ruger Americans are the best deal going now in a budget rifle, at the regular price. If you can get one for $199 jump on it. The 243 will take any deer, or deer size game on the planet with the better bullets available. It is borderline acceptable for bear or elk. I'd hunt bigger game if it were all I had, but would prefer a bigger gun for game bigger than deer.

My only gripe with the 243 is they are barrel burners. 1500 to 1800 rounds and the accuracy begins to fall off. Otherwise, it's a wonderful dual purpose varmint/deer/pig rifle.

I like the American rifle as good or better than any of the "run to the bottom" rifles, although the T/C Compass is growing on me.

Thanks for the feedback.. If you guys are interested the place is called four winds technology. They are having a 4th of july sale. Free shipping over $500. Check them out. A little slow on shipping...

My hunting buddy has this same rifle. It shoots 4 inch groups at 200 yards with Black Hills Ammo featuring the 95 grain bullet.

I hunt antelope in western South Dakota every few years or so with my slide action .243 rifle. The high speed bullet hits hard with rapid expansion but 100% penetration is rare. Yet it kills deer sized animals very well, indeed. If you're looking for a cartridge that produces a heavy blood trail, .243 is not for you.

Looks to be sold out... guess it was a good price!
I agree with loonwolf... thank goodness! I wasn't thrilled about the cartridge since I'm not familiar with it. Had it been offered at that price in .223 I'd probably bought one.
If my wife only knew how close it was!

Thank God, I really didn't want another .243....tho I woulda bought one.

+1
I woulda got in trouble over that one. I just bought a new rifle and wifey woulda been heated if I bought another without talking about it first....

But for $199 I went on their site with the sole purpose of buying one! lol

Oh, it'll penetrate just fine, get a better bullet. Not necessarily heavier, but built better, I don't know what black hills is running for a 95 gr bullet, so I'm not knocking them, but I promise it will run long ways through an adult muley.
