    Hello,

Just up a ruger american predator in 6.5 creedmoor and i found a black plastic block with a sliding tab in the box. Have no idea whats it for. I glanced through the manual, but did not find reference to it. Any ideas whats it is?

    Thanks

Wondering if that isn't some kind of a lock.

It came with a cable lock. Block would not fit in the trigger guard.

I don't know what it is, but I have 2 Predators in 308 and 6.5 and I didn't get one with either of my rifles. I don't know if you got something that shouldn't be there, or if I got short changed.

    That’s either a whachamacallit, a thingamabob or a doodad.

Purdy ain’t it?! When you’re done with it, can I borrow it?!

You got the vegan lunchbox edition. Cool! I recall getting some sort of metal contraption with my son’s 10/22 TD that was part of the lock mechanism (a long hasp Masterlock style, not cable). I added it to my bad idea box as it would most assuredly have scratched the rifle something terrible.

Big, black boxy type thingy with a lock? I got some of those too and they go in the trash. I keep all the cable locks though.

You got some extra plastic to go with your plastic. Outstanding

Maybe it was a extra present from the LGS

Could it be a magazine limiter? Looks really weird and besides maybe limiting the mag capacity I've no clue....unless it's something that someone tossed in the box just to mess with you.

It sorta looks like some type of jig. Like maybe to line up where to drill 2 holes?

    Or a plastic doo-hickey?

I would just pretend you beat Ruger out of something extra and make up a good name for it so as to brag about it.

    I'd say you're the closest. :)

Flyboy73, It looks to be a tool for re-installing the external mag latch. See the bottom of page 24 in the instruction manual below.

Maybe a bored package stuffer played a prank.

Or someone went home, started searching their pockets for their Frammis spacer, and realized they lost it at work.

Serially folks. I have opened that picture in hi-res. I honestly would like to know what the heck is thaat thaang and why was it in a Ruger rifle package.

" I added it to my bad idea box as it would most assuredly have scratched the rifle something terrible."

I have received those gun safety locks of various styles. If used as directed, a lot of them would damage the finish or have potential to damage extractor, ejector, loading port or cartridge lifter if used as directed. (Seriously. I am supposed to open an 1892 action and thread a cable lock through the loading gate and out the ejection port? That lock still is still in its envelope in the box.)
There was a mandatory lock included with my M6 Scout but I could never figure out how it was supposed to work to prevent opening a hinge-action -- I guess the law mandated including a lock with every gun whether it was functional or not. I do use one of the cable locks - to secure my bike to my porch rail to deter any kids from the temptation of taking a joy ride (temporary lockdown not overnight storage). Right now it's just me and my cat, but I have lockable storage in case of visitors. Either

Thank you, Chicharonnes, for that find! Now I am free to go to finish breakfast!

    Flyboy73: Label that thing!
(Gee. How much trouble would it have been to mold "Magazine catch installation tool" into a plastic box?)

It's the assembly tool for the magazine latch pin and spring. There should also be a small slave pin. Read your Instruction Manual. It shows you how to use it. Good luck. :)

They must have included a old manual in my box. There was no mention of the magazine installation block in my manual. The pages in the link rizbunk77 provided are missing from mine. Also the slave pin. May call Ruger to get a new manual.

You need to get a new manual as your manual seems to be missing some important instructions. I can find only one manual for the Ruger American Rifle so yours must have some pages missing. You can just use their online PDF manual till you get a new one.
