Ruger American Rimfire - Tall scope mount that leaves Tech Sights useable?

I have a Ruger American Rimfire .22 LR with Tech Sights on it. I enjoy the Tech Sights, but would like to see if there would be a viable way to also mount a scope (not a red dot) in such a way that leaves the Tech Sights visible.

The Tech Sights, of course, are already fairly tall, and as it stands, I only have the front Weaver rail available for a scope mount. I’m wondering if there’s some sort of high rise, forward cantilever mount with a small Weaver base and open space underneath. Or maybe such a thing does not exist, and there are better options.

I grant that anything I come up with here is going to be less than ideal. The lack of a good cheek weld with such a high scope may cause me to abandon this venture, but I thought I’d at least explore the idea.

Thoughts?

3/8th see thru rings might be tall enough, youd have to see how high the windows are and if your techsights sit low enough to be useable thru them.

Yeah, a scope that would sit over Tech Sights? That's a tall order! ;) (Sorry, couldn't help myself ...)

On the serious side, are you absolutely set on a scope? I'm thinking a red dot with a quick-detach mount might be easier to rig.

They used to make see thru mounts. Can't remember the last time I saw any. I had them on a rifle decades ago for bad weather. They worked fine but most modern rifles don't have sights anyway. Hold over wasn't a problem for me. A half inch higher scope doesn't change the angle very much. It slightly extends the distance where the bullet crosses the horizontal sight plane. I haven't seen tip-off mounts either for decades. I had offset mounts on a 30-30. Maybe just quality mounts that you can just mount it when you need it. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback, folks.

Yeah, I know that a red dot can be mounted in such a way that you can cowitness the tech sights, but I was hoping to try to gain the value of magnification with this endeavor.

Maybe this isn't a viable pursuit. May be best if I just let this rifle be itself as a good iron sight shooter, and build a scoped gun separately.

The Tech sights use the rear scope mounting holes. There is no easy way to mount a scope without using those holes for the bases. I suppose it might be possible to fabricate some sort of forward scope mount and use a Scout type scope mounted on the barrel.

But it would be cheaper to just buy another rifle, one with irons, one scoped. Which is what I'd do anyway.

If you make both work, basically you'll be faced with two mostly unusable systems. I understand the attraction of what you're after, but I think I would do something on the order of the Talley rear peep

that fits on their bases, and then mount a scope in QR rings. If you get the front sight blade height figured out, you could use the techsight front.

If you really want cool points, invent some sort of pivot stock buttplate that pivots to the side without tools and has a spot to put the removed rear peep sight.

I'm with amflyer, I've tried this and was never happy with this setup. Your scope will be too high.
Maybe what you want is a quick disconnect scope mount?
