Alright, you haven't let me down yet, so I have another question for you.

I'm planning to buy a Ruger Bisley 44 mag, and I am having a tough time deciding between the Blackhawk Bisley:

and the Blackhawk Bisley Hunter:

I'm planning to use it for a plinker, hunter, woods toting gun. I'm okay with the long barrel length.

Right now I'm leaning toward the Hunter, because I like the flexibility of having optics, and I like the non-engraved unfluted cylinder. On the other hand I really prefer blued guns, and I don't think I'd ever use optics :D and I've always wanted a blued single action with ivory-like grips.

So, I can get a good deal on either, and the price difference is less than $50. What are your thoughts? I want to know!

Even if optics were not a consideration I would still like the lines on the Hunter over the other model. I love the long, uninterrupted line along the top of the Hunter and I think it looks like a more "industrial strength" revolver.

Optic mounting is just icing on the cake.

I like the Bisley Hunter too but I would like it even better of it came in Blue.

BTW, it's that Bisley Hunter a Super Blackhawk, not a Blackhawk?

I have the Bisley in hunter model. I have a scope on it and use it for hunting deer and hogs. It handles recoil really well and is very, very accurate.

Ruger lists the Bisley as a New Model Blackhawk, and the Hunter as a New Model Super Blackhawk.

I'm surprised the Hunter barrel rib only adds 2 oz. to the weight. I personally like the Hunter better. Sounds like you're leaning towards the Hunter too: buy it.

You can always satisfy the blue urge with other guns to keep the Hunter company.

Go stainless. That way you have the weather protection too. Think of all those rainy days in Oregon. It'll get wet.

Well I have the blued Bisley, although in .45 Colt:

I put a set of rosewood grips from Altamont and they really dress up the revolver. I absolutely love this gun and highly recommend it.

I have the Bisley Hunter in .44 and wish I'd gotten the blued model. I have handled both and think the blued model has better balance (I know that rib is small, but it seems to affect it for me!). I don't mind the engraving on the cylinder and prefer the look of bluing vs. stainless.

However...

The Bisley Hunter is very, very accurate, can mount a scope, and the stainless steel is quite nice because it eliminates many concerns about corrosion. I should mention again that this gun is very, very accurate :D. I'm not sure that would be a difference in the blued gun, but I can vouch personally for my stainless gun.

Unless it was different in the past there are no Bisley Hunters in blue, only in stainless and like I said in Post#3, it's a Super Blackhawk, not a Blackhawk.

LOVE the Bisley configuration - 15 or so here. Handle each and see which balances best for YOU. I kinda prefer the non-Hunter just because I prefer blued and the optics mounting isn't a big deal for me. I do have 2 Hunters but greatly favor the plain blued models.

Not meaning to take this thread off track but I have a quick question for you experienced BH owners. I have a BH and at full lock up there is a very slight amount of rotational movement of the cylinder is this common with Black Hawks?

Thanks! I was stunned when they arrived, they were just perfect. And only like $38.00 a pair I couldn't believe it. Check out their website, they have many excellent looking grips for Rugers:

Santa is suppose to be bringing me the same grips. I sure hope I've been a good boy this year. :uhoh:

ETA: Back on topic - I'm a bit partial to stainless so I'd choose the Hunter.

:)

Blackhawk/Super Blackhawk, it doesn't matter. They're all built on the same frame anyway.

Decide whether you want to mount a scope and your choice is easy.

I have two Bisleys ,44 and 357, both blackhawks and they are lovely shooters, and after seeing those grips i wish i never clicked this link!!!:banghead:

Thanks everyone for sharing your experience, insight and advice.

I just ordered New Model Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter...you know, the stainless one.

I really appreciated the advice to get both, but I think if I do that, I'd find a 4 5/8th Flattop Bisley 44 special from Lipsey's, or maybe by the time I'm ready for another, Ruger will offer shorter barreled Bisleys!

I had a moment of indecision when I thought about bagging the bisley idea and getting a 1911 or saving for an M1A scout. I guess it's good to have the next guns "on deck" and "in the hole". I may need a spread sheet.

Thanks again. I'll post pics when I receive it.

Great choice! Best of luck.

Regarding the spreadsheet/list... Yeah, you'll get one of those, and it will never get shorter, even though you'll probably go back a lot and say "now WHY did I want that again?!" ;)
