If they were both available, which would you be more likely to purchase, the new Charger or a 10-22 rifle chambered in .22 magnum?

With the recent news that Ruger is re-releasing the 10-22 Charger I have to wonder if Ruger chose the right model to re-release. Maybe they should have re-released the 10-22 chambered in .22 magnum instead. If they were both available, which would you be more likely to purchase, the new Charger or a 10-22 rifle chambered in .22 magnum?

Mods, since the Charger is a pistol and the standard 10-22 is a rifle, I selected the General Forum.

If Ruger ever plans to release a 10-22 magnum version, sign me up! I have several 10-22's and love them. Having one in a magnum would be awesome!

While I might buy a new charger if I had some extra
money, I have a 10/22 in .22 Mag that I rebuilt with a
Green Mountain heavy barrel, Kidd trigger in a Vogue stock. Works very well for me.

Granted the polls are still open but the results so far are exactly what I expected. It appears the potential buyers would be more interested in the standard rifle chambered in .22 magnum. They still have the plans, dies, etc. so why not re-introduce the product more people would buy. The obvious answer is it's easier for them to tool up for the Charger than the magnum. Still, wouldn't public interest override ease of production?

if Ruger couldn't make a 22 mag 10-22 work right years ago the chances of them bring it back aren't very good

22wmr was never stocked as high or deep as compared to 22lr, even in the good ol' days.

I saw a similar thread with the intent on getting people to email Ruger suggesting to bring back the 10/22 Mag rifle.

The overwhelming consensus was to go .223 instead of 22WMR

i would buy the 10-22 mag i never did like the looks of the charger and i am more of a rifle guy but im sure the charger is a fine gun.

I had a Charger. The thing I didn't like about it was the 22LR, because with such an accurate shooting machine as the Charger and the bi-pod legs, I thought of it more as a groundhog gun that you could rest on the truck hood or on the ground. It didn't work out to well as a squirrel gun because it's much more difficult than a rifle in the woods to find a rest to shoot at an elevated squirrel.

The truth is I have no more 22LR guns. Sure it costs more to shoot the magnum, but the capabilities are superior, imo. I've killed many a squirrel with a 22M and the damage to the animal is not near what people believe. If you are zeroed with hp's, shoot the head. If you are zeroed with non-hp's, shoot the body. Late in the season when all the foliage is down, very long distance shots are available to the squirrel hunter.

Oops, I sort of got off topic.

I went with the rifle, too. Between my Mk-II and my 10/22, there isn't anything the Charger can do that isn't already covered (though I admit I'd need to have both those guns with me.)

I just bought another 10/22 to trade a guy for a 10/22 magnum. The guy says it jams and he hates it, ammo too much etc. I added a 3x9 Bushnell scope and a sling to it and I am hoping to do the swap this weekend!

I owned a Charger for a while. As mentioned earlier the Charger doesn't have anything on a bolt action or semi-auto rifle so it's really limited as to what it can do. I got carried away by all the hype about the Charger on Rimfire Central and purchased one and was one happy dude when I sold it. I know there are guys that really love them and that's fine, nothing wrong with that, but I'll take a rifle any day.

I've had the Ruger SA Convertible revolver for about 20 years and a 10/22 for almost as long.
A few years after I got the 10/22 in LR, I started looking for a 10/22 in Mag only to find out it was discontinued. I didn't want the 77/22 Mag as I didn't really want a bolt-action Mag.

I ended up getting a Marlin 22 Mag bolt-action anyway.

I also have a Marlin bolt in 22LR and it seems to be more accurate with whatever ammo I feed it than the 10/22. :scrutiny:

Now my quest is for a "reasonably priced" Marlin 1894 levergun in .357 Mag (to go with my GP100). No luck so far and I've been looking on Armslist, GunBroker, etc., for over two years. Guns over 25 y.o. are going for more (sometimes almost triple!!) new MSRP! :what:

I have the 22 mag 10 22 and it has never jammed. I haven't fired it in years, but it has been accurate and reliable.

I picked the Charger. While I've owned a .22 mag rifle in the past I never quite figured out what they are good for except wasting money on the ammo.

I thought I wanted the first edition Charger, but after experimenting with two other long barreled .22 handguns I'm done buying handguns for that purpose.

Yet, I'm a big fan of the .22 Mag in rifles and handguns. So, maybe a 10/22 in .22 Mag and a Charger in .22 Mag?

A takedown 10/22 in .22 Mag could be a good all around 125 yard "pack gun". I really like how little 100 rounds of space that .22 Mags take up. Plus they shoot almost flat from 25 to 100 yards (compared to .22 LR). No elevation hold overs or sight changes in that range is one of a few reasons I like the .22 Mag in a rimfire sized rifle.

With more defensive load ammo coming out for the .22 magnum and the Keltec PMR30 and CMR30 released, I chose the 22 Magnum rifle. God Bless :)

I really don't have much need or use for the 10/22 Charger but would be interested in a 10/22 rifle in .22 Magnum. Would be a nice companion gun to go with my Single Six with its .22 Magnum cylinder.

I went Charger... I think setting up a .22 plinker pistol with a scope and bipod would be a lot of fun. That and I just cant justify the .22wmr for my purposes, mainly range use, especially in a semi auto when I can buy cheap (read: Russian Steel case) .223 for about the same cost.

I really wouldn't want either. I've never had or even been able to dream up a reason to have a 22 magnum. And the Charger is neither fish nor fowl. It's not a rifle, but it's not really (my idea) of a pistol either. So, zero interest in either one of them.

Yea, you knew there would be one. I'm it. :D

But what do I know?

I don't see a Charger having higher sales potential than a 10/22 Mag. If Ruger would come out with a walnut 10/22 International in 22 Mag I would order on)e tomorrow. (Preferably French Walnut with Basketweave Checkering.:D)

I can reload .223 for cheaper than I can buy .22 magnum.
Heck, I can buy .223 for cheaper than .22 magnum.

22 magnum has never tickled my fancy. I have no need for something just a bit peppier than a .22lr but a bit more expensive than .223. I own one and can almost guarantee you it will never be fired.
The charger interests me, but only a little. To me its a 200 yard handgun chambered for a 50 yard cartridge.

So its kind of a toss up between "not interested at all" and "meh". To each their own.
Too bad there will never be a 10/22 hornet...that would be neat!

I chose the charger because I would change it to a SBR and thread the barrel, very easily and only a 3-4 week wait using the eform system.

Already have a Charger and would probably go for a 10/22Mag. The .22Mag is a great field cartridge and I have never understood its comparison to the .223. About like saying you don't want a .30-30 because you have a .300RUM. The .22Mag is a fantastic 150yd varmint and predator cartridge that is far more potent than the .22LR, yet quieter and cheaper to feed than the .223 AND fits into cheaper, lighter, more portable rifles.

Standard 40gr .22Mag can still be had for around $10-$11 per 50rds and that's a little more than what cheap .223 field bullets will cost (no FMJ's). Factor in powder and primers and you're probably about even or a little higher. Then there's your time at the loading bench. Cheap .223 ammo loaded with FMJ's (not the same thing) is about $8/20rds, big difference. The good stuff will cost DOUBLE that of .22Mag. Sorry but those are two different tools for distinctly different jobs.

...and only a 3-4 week wait using the eform system.
What??? Please explain, I need to add a suppressor to my list of New Year's resolutions! ;)
