Just bought some .38 special ammo from Southern Ohio Gun and thought I would give it a try. I usually shoot auto pistol but thought I would take my Ruger Vaquero .357 and an old Colt Dick Special out to a friend's training facility. I told my 14 year old son we were going shooting and he was ready to go in no time.

My son was shooting the Colt and I was shooting the Ruger. I could not believe how much fun we were having... I mean we often shoot together but my son usually shoots his Remington Mod Seven and I shoot a 9mm Sig or a .45acp Colt and we trade off.

We were shooting falling plates with the revolvers and had a great time. It's great to vary your shooting from time to time. I'm thinking of buying some black powder revolvers now.

I wish my father had taken me shooting.

Makes two of us. I also wish he would have undertaken a father/son race car project with me. With his "heritage" of running locally in NY when he was young. :(

Some of my greatest memories as a kid is shooting w/my Dad.We used to skeet shoot every weekend and plink in the woods. My father and I really never had a whole lot in common. He's a sports lover and a jock, I'm neither. That all changed when we started shooting...it was a true bonding expeirence.Even now when we get together(once a week for lunch) the conversation always comes around to shooting and guns.I wish we still shot together as much as we did then.I plan to increase my shooting time w/my step-son.Althogh he's older (25) it would still be a great way to bond.:)

Sounds like a perfect day. My dad and I shot some when I was growing up, but it's just within the last few years that I was truly and completely bitten by the gun bug. Last Christmas presented me with several Milsurp rifles and Dad and I spent the last two days of my vacation home shooting. Some was with the new toys but mostly it was burning off ammo he's had for years in one of 4 1911's we kept jumping or my new (to me) 1917 S&W. Dad doesn't shoot much anymore due to eye problems, but I can't remember a better day together between us. I'm 29 and the joy of playing together just doesn't wear off. Good shooting, BD

Having grown up in Germany in the 30s and 40s, my father never would have conisdered taking me shooting. Very sad.
