Around 2005 or so, I picked up one of the last Ruger Redhawk 5.5 .45 Colts before they were discontinued. The gun was a lemon with stuck standard-pressure loads from tool marks in the cylinders to the action locking up on its first trip to the range. I sent it back to Ruger once and they fixed the action, and replaced some parts, but I still had trouble with cases sticking. I sent it back and they looked at it, but didn't replace the cylinder or resolve the problem. I was pretty discouraged and tried to resolve it myself with a Flexhone, but the tool marks were very deep, and I'm not entirely certain they were misaligned. So for the most part, it sat in my gun safe for years because I didn't want to sell it dishonestly nor did I want to take the financial hit on selling a lemon.
A little while ago, I heard you could write the CEO from the Ruger webpage, so I sent him my story, and the next day, Ruger called me up asking me to send it back. I did send it back, and they held onto it for a month or so before I called back to check on it. They said it was going to take a while to get fixed, would I like to pick a different gun from the catalog to replace it? Given that I had never really liked the plain Redhawk, I was delighted at that offer, so I jumped at the chance and a couple weeks later, the sent me a brand spanking new Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan in .454 Casull which has proven to be absolutely AWESOME. It has quickly become one of my favorite range toys, is actually pretty comfortable to shoot, and is quite accurate even with the short sight radius.
All in all, while I might not have had a great experience with their CS circa 2005, I give their present day Customer Service an A+.
