Ok - so after trying everything I could think of to fix the periodic extraction/ejection problems with my MKII Target model, I finally called Ruger yesterday.

Talked to a tech there who really knew his business.

After dicussing the problem and some of the related issues (Does the extractor appear damaged? Does it fail with other magazines?) he told me about 6 things it could be - and then proceeded to send me the parts, free of charge! (extractor, recoild spring assembly, mag latch, plus some others)

He basically sent me an entire new set of internal parts, with nothing more than my name and address.

He told me to call him back if I need help installing anything, and if the new parts don't fix it, to send it in and they'll figure it out.

I have always heard that Ruger had good customer service, but this was way more than I expected. Maybe I will get that new P345 they just came out with...

:D

How things change. In the old days they'd come to your house and fix it. Oh, wait a minute, that was the family doctor I'm thinking of.

I also received exceptional service from Ruger the one time I really needed it.

Ruger has always had excellent customer service, in contrast to some other companies I won't mention. S&W also has always had good CS, even while they were going through a bad patch several years ago; so has Colt in the past, but I see indications their CS is not what it used to be.

Taurus and Springfield have both been excellent when I have called them. I hear Kel Tec is the same way.

Beretta on the other hand... *shudder* If you have a problem with Beretta, call LTT not Beretta. The guy I talked to on the phone was an absolute jackass. He acted as if me ordering a part - giving them business - was an interuption. Screw those guys.
Oh, I love the handguns... Some of my absolute favorites now. But I'm never calling them again.

The whole manufacturing and retailing world could use some lessons in customer service from the firearms and related stuff manufacturers.

George - I'd always heard that about Beretta, but when I called them a couple of years ago they went out of their way to help me.

I wanted two magazines for a Finnfire and I needed the screw that holds the trigger assembly to the receiver. It wasn't available as a separate part, no number in the computer, etc., and 2 of them took the time to dig around and find me one. (I'd bought 2 Jewell triggers and the seller wanted an unmodified screw to remount his factory trigger and I didn't really want to send him mine.)

Come to think of it, before I modified the trigger guard to fit the Jewell I called Beretta and asked for the price on a trigger guard in case I botched the job. The guy was just as nice as he could be.

Could be the luck of the draw I suppose.
