While at my dealer today to discuss my RH or SRH, 45 LC or 454/45 LC decisions and options, the dealer started smiling. Bad sign. He steps back and goes under the display case. He comes up with a blued, Bisley BH in 45 LC with a 7.5" tube. It has an etched and scored cylinder ring. It has a Belt Mountain Keith locking base pin. He says he needs $400.00. His reasoning is that I buy it "as is", ship it to Ruger and essentially have a "new" Bisley BH. My plans are then to have 11 degree forcing cones cut, open up the proper bore dimensions in the chambers, Wolff spring kit, Eagle faux ivory grips, regulate the sights with a load and have an action tuning. Have you returned a Ruger and what was your experience?

I'm not sure about prices in your area, but isn't $400 a little steep for a used Bisley (I assume New Model)? Belt Mountain base pins aren't that expensive ($25) and are pretty easy to install and the blue Bisley with 7.5" tube is still in production. Was there something else unique about this one?

I will keep and eye on this thread.

I have my Ruger Mk I getting repaired at this time. Nothing broke, but when I sent it in to be blued they sent it back unassembled. The gun looks brand new, but I could not get it put back together. I knew Ruger could so I sent it off to them. It has been 2 weeks with no word on what the cost is going to be.

I think thats a little steep for a used one also, especially since you don't know what you'd be getting into. I just called Sportsmans Warehouse on something else, asked about the RB-45W and was quoted $400 new. I'd shop around. I'd also ask-why doesn't HE ship it off to Ruger ???

I've delt with Ruger's service twice and in both cases I was very pleased. In both cases, the people I spoke to on the phone were a delight to work with.

First time was with a Mk II that had its barrel damaged by some defective ammo. Gun had a lot of trigger work done and I asked them to leave the frame alone, Ruger replaced the receiver, paid the FFL fee (new serial number) and shipping both ways and billed Remington. Took about a month round trip. This was with the group in AZ.

Second time was with a RH that had cylinder drag problems when hot. As I had spent a lot of time getting the trigger nice, I was a bit leery of the CT Ruger repair guys returning it to factory specs as had been mentioned here. I sent them a letter asking them to fix the drag, but leave the trigger alone. They did exactly as requested, reblued the gun, probably because the backstrap was showing a lot of wear (N/C) and sent it back. Two weeks.

IMO, Ruger's service is only surpassed by Dillon's.

He says he needs $400.00. His reasoning is that I buy it "as is", ship it to Ruger and essentially have a "new" Bisley BH.
If that is such a good plan, I would tell him to "buy" it and send it to Ruger.... then when it comes back "as new", tell him to give you a call and then you can discuss price. There is an old saying about buying a pig in a polk.....

My Redhawk has been there twice. Both times it came back less than 14 days after I sent it. Unfortunately, it went back the second time because things were not done properly the first time.

$25 for shipping EACH TIME.

Well $400 is too high for a used Bisley. Since Ruger doesn't have a custom shop they most likely won't do any of that work for you. They will rebuild it back to it's original configuration, but nothing else. In fact if you send a firearm back to them with aftermarket parts installed you have to tell them or they will replace them with factory parts.
Your dealer was grinning, but for an entirely different reason.

I detached the ejector assembly from my super blackhawk using heavy loads. This happens sometimes. It came back in like-new condition. I had sent it without grips and they put on a new factory set- then re-polished the stainless to factory standards.

About 3 weeks turn around. after they sent a work order having me agree to their destruction and replacement of Non standard parts. The put in a full strenght trigger return spring in place of one I had modified but left my nice light sear release intact.

Twenty year old revolver, second hand, no charge.
