Can't seem to find one of these phantom shotguns anywhere. Do they exist(xcept in the hands of the chosen gunwriters)?? I don't believe the first production gun has left the hallowed halls of Sturm,Ruger & Co. to date. (anyone remember the still-born XGI carbine?) At any rate, the Gold Label looks like it ought be a dandy, but if they ain't available, who knows???

If anybody has info/rumors/psychic insight about when they maybe released &to which distributors, sing out!!

BTW--- How can a gun that is not available for sale to the unwashed masses get to be declared the Gun of the Year for '02?

No and no one else does either. Ruger has been toying with the shooting public for two years on this gun. I also recall the XGI and their single barrel trap gun. The did make about 200 or so trap guns before deciding to give up the ghost.

The on again, off again Gold Label rumors have floated around for the last year.

Frankly, Ruger should be ashamed of themselves for treating the shooting public with such disdain. Either produce the gun and get it into the pipeline or stand up and admit it was a mistake in the first place.

I guess the shooting press was hoodwinked as well by the Ruger spin machine and Ruger is a major source of ad revenue.

The guns do I exist. I handled a prototype briefly at the Grand in 01. Not a bad gun I suppose but not a gun for me. Probably the same gun the gun rags got to play with.

Yep, it's irritating that Ruger has been dragging this out. I've got to believe it must be a problem with the design that they're trying to work out. Don't know why they would keep advertising, though.

One of the things that bug me about the Ruger doubles is the safety. I don't like how it flips back and forth for the barrel selection. It also seems kind of flimsy for the gun. Oh, I also hate the auto-safety aspect of it, too, but Ruger's certainly not going to pass up a chance to inpose a safety on you... They would wet their pants if they had to leave safety up to the shooter.

Hey, look on the bright side! There will certainly be a few large lines of safety warnings on the barrels - maybe the text will light up this time.

Next year, expect to see some new safties on their handguns... sigh...
