Hey all. I'm considering buying one of these in the near future. I'd appreciate any comments pro or con from those that own or have owned them.
How are the triggers? Can they handle sustained max loads? yada yada?
Thanks

Triggers are acceptable and the GP-100 will take anything you can shoot through it that is of the correct caliber.

Excellent gun. Triggers start out a little rough, but smooth out with use. The gun is basically built like a tank and will handle anything you run through it easily. Rumor has it that some ammo companies use these guns to test hot loads.

I have a GP161 and love it.

Best,
Jeff

I have a blued 4" GP100 and it's a fine revolver. Mine has a hybrid feaux ivory and hardwood grip made by Lett Grips, a Rough Country rear sight by Bowen and a Big Dot front. I don't shoot it as much as I used to since I shoot mostly .44 Special in revolvers these days, but I did enjoy shooting it quite a bit, it is very accurate and durable.

I have a 6" SS GP-100. The trigger is not as good as a S&W tigger but it is good enough. They do get better with time, promise! The gun is very accurate and will shoot anything you load into it with no harm to the gun. The Rugers are my favorite hunting revolvers, the Smiths I prefer for target and carry.

I'm not up to speed on Rugers but I do admire BLUE revolvers.

I have one in this configuration and have been nothing but pleased with it. My mother gave it to me as a gift a few years ago and it has served well as a night-stand gun ever since. Only modification I have made is to replace the factory grip with a Hogue. May go back to the factory grip soon though.

I will probably end up using mine in IDPA Stock Service Revolver.

I've got a 4" in which I shoot mostly lead wadcutters. I load them on the hot side and the Ruger handles very well. It is also very accurate. Every now and them I shoot .357's in it for yucks and brace for the recoil and find that it is always much less in this revolver than in my Smiths.

I also bought the Wolff spring set for $10.00 and installed them in about 10 minutes. They are very reliable and I recommend the 10lb group.

I've got a 4" in Target Grey (Special Run) and it is flat out the best .357 I've ever owned and that is with some stiff competition from S&W, Taurus, and even other Rugers. Trigger was good out of the box and has only improved, currently I'd rate it better than a out of box Smith and it's had probably 2 thousand rounds through it. It fits me perfectly and is more accurate than I am, it just plain works for me. Let me say that I'm not a double action revolver guy but have had lots of them, this is not my favorite gun in the world but it's darn close.

My 4 inch GP-100 is stainless but no matter. As for the trigger, I will tell you that during the first 500 rounds or so, I thought it was a loser and wish I had bought a Smith instead. No longer! It might never get as light as some Smiths (no, I don't want to swap out springs thank you), but it sure has become lighter and smoother than I ever thought it would. This is one revolver I will never sell.

One man's opinion

I'll add my echo: tough, reliable guns, a nice size, shoot well, triggers aren't bad to start with and improve in short order; in short, never a bad choice.

More specifically, let me echo this:

I've got a 4" in Target Grey (Special Run) and it is flat out the best .357 I've ever owned and that is with some stiff competition from S&W, Taurus, and even other Rugers. Trigger was good out of the box and has only improved, currently I'd rate it better than a out of box Smith and it's had probably 2 thousand rounds through it.

I have exactly this gun and had exactly the same experience with it. It's my "go to" gun. I like it better than my Python.

got a stainless 4" Gp-100, bought it second hand slighty used, I don't regret buying it at all. It is built like a tank and probably the easiest revolver to deep clean because the trigger assembly drops out the bottom.

My late wife and I went to the Gun Store to pick up a .22 revolver. We ended up with he picking out a new blue GP100, 4",full lug and fixed sights. I got a slightly used Redhawk (never thought I'd own a SS gun!!). Never even looked at the .22. Anyway now its mine (on paper, at least, its always referred to as her gun) and I love it, built like a tank and the trigger gets better and better. Great little gun, just wish she was still here to let me borrow it.
