Ruger GP 100 5"/ How Many?

I have a GP 100 5" that will outshoot any revolver I have ever owned. I have put over 1000 assorted .38 and .357 rounds thru it. I understand it was a Davidson's Special run. Only one person responded on the Ruger Forum and guessed there were 1500 made, but he was not sure. Anyone know?
