It would be good for buying and fixing a beater,

Cheaper way to refurbish an old cary gun.

Good for gunsmiths who want spare parts.

Maybe they're re-imports or from a state that won't let their PD sell firearms back to the public. Not sure where else they would get them.

Unless you need parts I don't see the gain myself. I don't see frames alone very often for them.

Parts packages like these are often from police departments in repressive jurisdictions where they are not allowed to sell a working firearm surplus from police service or confiscated from a suspect "on the street." The antis in charge are just sure they will all go straight to stickup men, in spite of having to be routed through normal licensed channels. So they scrap the receivers and try to recoup a few bucks by selling the parts.

Take a cue from the AR/AK/1911 guys

Clearly some enterprising soul needs to design and start producing 80% GP100 frames ;)

I believe that Numrich/The Gunparts Corp. (www.e-gunparts.com) have similar kints for S&W model 10's and 15's. The parts were stripped off of guns and then, according to regulations, the frames were scrapped. Occasionally I see barreled frames for sale, and yes- one of these day's I'll build a gun. :)

Several of those parts are ones that Ruger will not sell--they're factory fit only. That alone might make it worth the purchase price...

There have been threads in the past about gunsmiths who will turn the gp100 into a 10mm revolver. And I am sure there are other calibers that could be used, don't know what is reasonable and what is not though.

So having the spare parts available for the modification might be nice.

I also guess if someone wanted to really modify a cylinder for moon clips and chamfering for quick reloads it might be nice to have a spare around.

My first thought was 357 maximum loads on a sane level that the gp100 can handle but I have never dealt with the 357 maximum so I don't even know if they would fit in a gp100 cylinder.

I can see reasons to have the kit, right now I am trying to make sure I have enough cash to cover my bills for this winter since I don't have a job so the kit is a luxury to consider but I don't think I have a need for it.

Overall it is something to consider if you are seriously interested in being able to work on your own gun since it gives you some parts to experiment with.

Please note this post is just random thoughts and is not intended to say any of the above is safe or sane in any way.
