I received my ruger GSR today. So far very happy with my purchase but I havent fire it yet... Not till this weekend at least! I made a post asking about what I should purchase for my first rifle: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=776112

I ordered my cleaning kit, BR CLP, and have my rifle. Soon, I will have my rings for my swivel studs. I will add picks of the sling I will attached (black web sling). Listen, I am sorta biased and excited! Ruger GSR, Stainless Steel Barrel, Composite Syth Stock. Here are some pictures:

At the Range (3/29/15):

Shot 80 rounds from 50 (to zero) and stayed at 100 yards. Someone told me the iron sights are really only good for 100-200 yards, they were correct, but this gun is very very accurate. Here are some pictures:

I am still waiting on my swivels to attach my slings.

What I noticed:
-This rifle has minimal recoil (might be due to the muzzle brake)
-It is extremely accurate
-The action is so smooth, almost seamless (feeding and spitting with no problems!)
-The trigger, I dont think I will replace this at all, I love it
-Its light, dont get tired holding this thing at all, fast target acquisition
-Its loud, but not that loud, just a tad lighter than I expected.

I did a standing fast fire (no sling) (5-6 seconds) with 4 rounds, 100 yard steel target square, and I ripped it 3 out of the 4.

This was a great purchase, no regrets!

Great purchase! I don't own one, but I've heard so many good things about the GSR. All my Rugers shoot very well, so you should have lots of enjoyment sending lead downrange with that GSR. Keep us posted! :)

I think you made a good purchase decision. I used to have one of the original SS GSRs, and one of my only complaints about it was that it was heavier than I liked. With the new composite stock, they seem to have cut the weight, I bet it's a sweet handling little carbine now.

UPDATE!

I added some more pictures, the rifle deserves that! Bought some ammo, Federal AE 150gr FMJ. Shooting will happen Saturday or Sunday, hopefully I get a good zero.

That's a helluva first rifle! Those are nice looking guns.

I like the excitement you show. I still get all giddy like a kid at Christmas every time I get a new gun.

Thanks guys! I am giddy with excitement. I am going to the range tomorrow too! Cant wait to send some more updates and see how bad a shot I am with this rifle!

Looks good.

If you don't already have any, pick up one or two of the polymer magazines. IME, they feed more smoothly than the metal magazine and load a little easier. You can also load the polymer magazines while they are in the rifle, which you cannot do with the metal mag. Check online for the best price, unless you want to pay MSRP from Ruger.

good to go, thanks!

I loaded the steel A1 mag, it seemed pretty good to be honest, I liked it. Loading wasnt too difficult and its stainless steal and will last. I did a feed check on it too and it fed and spat nicely. I will invest in the 5 round poly mag though, maybe the 3 round too. Thats a cool feature to load with the mag still inside, also very practical given the situation. Hell you're right, I will invest in the 10 too!

They are a good rifle. If I hadn't fallen in love with my 30-30 lever action, I would probably own this or have converted the ruger compact in 308 to something very similar. Though with the availability of the 3 round mag that is nearly flush (comfortable for field carry), I'd be more temped for the box fed one.

Awesome rifle. Mine has the laminate stock. It is my go to hunting rifle and has nailed deer from 15 to 300 yards.

I would suggest getting one of the 5 round mags. Makes the gun feel much better IMHO, especially when you don't need 10 rounds. Mine hardly ever gets the 10 rounder.

Shoots 1.5 MOA or better depending on load, so plenty accurate. Even does well with cast bullets. AWESOME all around rifle for me.

I own one, left-handed with the laminate stock. Mounted a Nikon pistol scope on it for the extended eye relief, with factory Federal 150gr ammo (blue box) I can shoot 1" groups at 100 yards with it, and have made 1.5" groups at 200.

Took a 180 pound hog with it last year and various other varmints. It's a pretty good gun for close in shooting. I've found that you need to work the bolt with a bit of authority, otherwise the ejector doesn't do a good job at kicking the brass out.

I want to know what the muzzle blast is like next to that brake at the firing line.

Just the other day, I was getting blasted by a guy with an AR with a muzzle brake and I'd have like to have been shooting something that could "equalize the misery" a bit. Too bad I wasn't shooting my GSR and too bad it doesn't have a muzzle brake. :D

Update added guys! Went to the range. Thanks for reading and adding comments everyone. Let me know if you want to know anything about this rifle while its still fresh in my head from firing it all morning!

Please post a range report. It's always good to have more impressions of any given gun model.
check post #2

if you wanted targets. I shot them to hell with 80 rounds, we didnt get a clear fire for 2 hours at one point, rso was pretty busy somewhere else. So if you want that, I'll post it lol, but I cant remember the shot groups (5 target paper).
