Ruger LC9 function/disfunction

A friend asked me to figure out how to install a new battery in the laser on his LC9. Sure , I said.

I thought I'd like to try the trigger while I had it , so I safety checked / cleared it , cycled it , and pulled the trigger - or tried to. Trigger would not budge. Hmmm ...
So I dug out some good quality snap caps , loaded , chambered a "round" , still the trigger would not budge. Loaded indicator was up , safety off , tried and tried - then the trigger worked , once. Ok , cycled , ejected and chambered - trigger again was unmovable.

Before I contact Ruger for a shipping label - am I missing something? I've never handled this particular make and model before , but it seems pretty simple ... chamber a round , safety off , pull trigger , bang. Repeat.

I'm all ears.

Magazine safety.

Not formally a disconnect, since it doesn't disconnect anything. . . it blocks the trigger. It's also easy to remove.

I am not inclined to modify a gun that does not belong to me.

Do you have a magazine in the gun? It has a magazine safety that blocks the trigger when there is no magazine in the gun.

Yes , I tried a number of things, including cycling the pistol with snap caps. I used the magazine for that.

They do I forgot about that, got rid of my LC9 and got a LC9s pro to get rid of the extra safeties

I'll be dipped. I had no idea the a Ruger had an IL. Never even occurred to me. And that little hole tripped no flags for me.

No sense going on an anti lock rant I guess. (and I could...) Now I need to see if my friend the owner of the Ruger has the key.

You guys have probably saved me from a significant inconvenience - Thank You.

Doesn't sound like a very good safety feature.

I am ashamed to admit, I had an LC9. My initial though after reading the OP was; pull harder, the trigger is that bad.

An update on this minor tale -

The owner of the LC9 produced the box and IL key today at my request. I was sure that the key would solve my problem ... but no. The lock feels like it cycles when the key is turned , but the trigger remains locked.

I don't like internal locks on handguns, if fact I hate internal locks. I've never owned one , never will. My friend asks me to help him with gun related issues from time to time ; I am willing to provide that help because he is a good guy. All I was asked to do is replace the laser battery ... no big deal. Now I'm stuck shipping this blankety-blank piece of blank back to the factory because the stupid lock is fritzed. Didn't even know till now that Ruger had any internal locks. I am disappointed in Ruger , an otherwise great outfit.

End of minor rant.
