Hey revolver gurus! *Cough* Only people I know that know anything about wheel guns*cough*

Ruger has produced the LCR in .22mag! What is the general consensus on this gun in this caliber?

I think it's interesting and think it may be an awesome little plinker and well, maybe an SD piece for my Gal. Might even live in my Glove box for a while.

I'm looking at this because .22Mag is the only consistent ammo on the shelves.

Fill me in!

P.S. I was also looking at the .22lr LCR, but well, .22lr is ummm... GONE! Atleast for now. I figure a gun is a good investment no matter what the caliber. So I don't mind buying new gun later to plink with.

Winchester is making actually defense ammo for 22mag.

I'd go for the mag over LR in a defense gun any day.

But I'd rather have one of my 40's...

I've got a Glock. 40 as well.

It's fun, but I don't own a wheel gun yet and figured I'd jump on this since it looks so good.

If the ammo situation was better is rather have the LR version but it doesn't seem to be looking up. Although I did manage to grab a few boxes of bulk LR by chance.

I would pick the LR over the Mag if this gun will just be a plinker. 22Mag ammo is expensive.

Even though 22LR is a bit on the scarce side now, if you keep your eyes open you can find a box or two here and there. You just need to be dilligent and buy a box or two whenever you see one.

Winchester and Speer both make SD ammunition in .22WMR. I wouldn't have any problem being armed with a good revolver in that caliber, but I already have other options available.

The .22LR version might be more practical if you want a rimfire revolver. Even if the "bulk" ammo, which often doesn't run well in the little semi-automatics, is all that re-appears on the shelves, a revolver will still run it.

Overall, it really depends on what you really what you want to do with it, and who else in your household might also use it.

I'm not seeing ANY ammo at Walmart except an odd box of centerfire "hunting" caliber ammo. They still have shotgun shells. Do they make the LCR in 12 ga? :D

I have around 1000 rounds of mixed brands of 22 Mag ammo. Not something I plink with. But you never know.
