I am looking at buying an LCR .357 because if ammo isn't available in .357 i can get the 38's and if no 38's get the .357's. I like this Ruger because it is small, yet powerful, I have always had the larger Smith's in 9mm and .357 but sold them because of sister needing money. Now im getting back into the business again thought this would be a good CC as well as enjoyable at the range. I also considered the Taurus Judge.... any comments on this, good CC or not, worth buying?

The Taurus judge seems more like a fun gimmick than something serious. I would recommend the LCR out of the two choices. I held one at a NRA banquet and love it.

If you can figure out how to CC a Judge, you are a bigger man then I.

I guess if you wear a judges black robe over your street clothes, it might be concealable.
Otherwise, not so much.

It weighs 13.5oz. I doubt even with .38 specials that it would be fun to shoot. 357 would just downright suck. I've held one and I can get all, but my pinky on the grip. Other than that I hear good things about it. The best being, you can pocket carry this pistol.

I just bought one yesterday, I'll let you know how it turns out. The gun carries very well and I think the weight (17oz)is the perfect compromise between the scandium 11oz and an all steel 23oz J frame. The trigger really is as nice as you hear about and that's what sold me on the gun. I was worried about durability until I found out that the frame is actually steel and only the grip and spring housing is polymer. The balance is very nice.

They say that the polymer is supposed to flex and absorb some recoil like a Glock. I will find out this weekend. The gun so far has not dissapointed me, very utilitarian just like I wanted.

I have an LCR in 38spl. Only shot standard loads and those had pretty snappy recoil. I am sure that +P will be more so but probably not unpleasant though. I have shot 357mags out of a 4" S&W M19 ~36oz and that was about as much snap as I want to deal with. Cannot grasp the thought of doing this out of a 17oz gun. OUCH That has got to be painful! :what:

I have one in.357 and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, All I Can Say ISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS,WHHHHHHHHHHHHAT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSH. Just got to have a little tighter grip then you will not have that much recoil. I shot so far in my LCR about 300 rds one day of different .357 rds and, NO FLAME CUTTING WITH LOADS FROM110 thru 158 grain factory and handloads. Groups at 15 yards were in and around average of 3 inchs or less. rich642z

Go for the LCR, you won't be disappointed. I've got a few hundred rounds down the .38 version and the recoil is very manageable, including +P.

The LCR also pocket carries like a dream.

the .357 magnum is about the perfect round for a handgun, everybody should own 1. you can practice with low cost 38 lead and increase power as needed to full patch hunting loads. the best self defense round is the remington 357 mid range load. you may have to special order a box, most gunstores dont stock it. as to the judge, and the new raging judge, its, novel, I like Taurus and the judge is selling well. its,,novel, with the 45,.410 and now 454 casul chambering, it would make for a fair camping, backpack weapon. it seems marketed for the self defense crowd, its kinda huge for a carry weapon and the rounds would work much better than a sharp stick. i dont have a judge, or raging judge, i would take one as a gift, there are at least 100 weapons i need before i add a judge to the collection though. the 357 makes much more sense, to me anyways

Thanks for all the advise, but i went to a gun show today and found a S&W mod 642 airweight for a price i couldn't pass up and with the $50.00 rebate from S&W it was even better. again thanks.

I have an LCR in 38. No way I would get it in 357. I can see women being turned off to shooting forever because of it. Senseless in my opinion.

I do however love my 3 inch S&W 44 Magnum.

I'm still not sold on a polymer revolver. I think I would wait a year or so to see how they really work out before I bought one. The M642 on the other hand is a good purchase IMO. Nothing wrong with a 15oz .38 Special that can ride in your pocket...
