Ruger magazine difference between 22/45 mkII v mkIII

I have a Ruger 22/45 mk II and my friend bought a 22/45 mk III. I am unable to see a difference in the mags, but they have different part numbers with Brownells. Is there a difference? If so, what, and are they interchangeable?

I want to buy another, but if the mags don't interchange, I might just pick up a used mkII instead of a new mkIII.

Ps. I don't care about differences in the gun, I just want to know about the mags.

Mag for Mark II

I went threw this also, a Mark III mag will go into a Mark II,BUT Its Real Hard to get out. Ruger will sell you a New mag for your Mark II. My local dealer had new mags for the Mark II and the Mark III.

The MK-II mag release is on the heel of the grip. Unless I'm mistaken the newer MK-III uses a button mag release on the frame like most centerfire autos.

There is probably a slot cut in the side of the MK-III mags so they will work with the newer style mag release. I'm just guessing here. I have the Ruger 22-45 and it uses different mags altogether. It's been a while since I've actually handled one of the MK-III's.

Just a SWAG, but I would not be surprised to see the newer MK-III mags work in both pistols, but the older mags only working in the older guns.

When Glock offered an ambi mag release they changed all their new mags to work in all guns, with and without ambi mag releases. Their older mags will only work in non-ambi mag release pistols.

Don't see why Ruger could not do the same.

JMR, I have a Ruger Mark II, as well, but I'm just asking about the mags for the 22/45 MkII vs the 22/45 MkIII. You are correct about the Mark II vs the Mark III, though.

There should be a cut out towards the top of the MkIII mag for the mag disconnect.

Once I replaced the mag disconnect with a MkII bushing in my MkIII(not 22/45)--I replaced the base plates from the old 22/45 mags I had sitting there---they work like a chanp.

I apologize, I didn't read your post carefully enough. I cannot say for sure, but would bet all of the mags will interchange. I do know this. Ruger makes a P-90, and a P-345. They used to make a P-97. You will find 3 different part numbers for the 3 different guns magazines, but have personally never had a problem using them interchangeably. Same with all of the pistols in 9mm.
