Ruger MkIII vs Ruger 22/45 magazines, what's the difference?

I see a little cutout on the MkIII mag near the top-front that shows the spring and bottom bit of the follower. But other than that they appear the same. My 22/45 mags appear to fit, feed, and lock the slide back just fine in the MkIII.

What' the point here? To trick dealers into doubling up on their inventory or what?

I know the MkI mags are only different from the MkII mags in that they hold only 9 rounds, I've been using 10 round MkII mags in my MkI since the MkII first came out. The MkI mag seemed to work fine in a MkII when I tried it.

probably just a minute difference. i doubt Ruger would do a stupid thing like that to have people double up their inventory.

Just got back to the range and I can tell no difference when uisng a Ruger MkIII magazine in a Ruger 22/45 or when using a 22/45 mag in a Mark III pistol. Completely interchangable with perfect function as far as I can tell. Shot 50 rounds thru each gun using the "wrong mag" with zero problems and the slide always locked back. Ammo was Remignton Thunderbolt.

Mystery to my as to why Runger insists they are different -- there is a cutout on the MkIII mag that apparently does nothing but make them look different.
