To my knowledge, the Red E product hasn't been available for sometime (nor has the Wilson Speed-Jector version of it).

I'd have more use for a last shot bolt hold open. YMMV. The Volguartson extended release works really well, but its not one-handed.

Down South, the correct reply is "I heard dat!"
The Volquartson does work well, and that's probably the best you're going to do unless you want to try making your own a la gb6491.

Yes.
It has a heel-type mag release as all older Rugers did..
Ain't no big thang on a .22 plinker IMO.
Beats losing mags in the weeds while rabbit hunting and the button gets pushed.

WAIT A MINUTE HERE; ALL of my early Ruger pistols, STANDARD and MKI, plus all on my MKII pistols, STANDARD and TARGET, can have their magazines removed with one hand, like in ONE[1] HAND. What in the world are you asking for here anyways ??

Mark I and Mark II pistols need two hands to drop a mag - one hand to hold the pistol and the other hand to work the release. Pistols that do not have heel releases do not need two hands - on a 1911, say, I can drop the mag by pushing the release button with the thumb of the hand holding the pistol.
But, as rcmodel has pointed out, for a non-defensive oriented pistol, a heel release is not necessarily A Bad Thing.

My 1967 Standard Model ($42.50 at Chartres Arms in New Orleans) has never suffered from the 2-handed mag release, and I have never dropped or lost a mag by inadvertently pushing a one-button release. It's not something I would strap on to take to a gunfight but I would not hesitate to use it in a pinch - it is a tack driver and 9 tacks can pin your hide to the wall ;-)

I have a MK I Target Model and the mag release latch was so strongly sprung that it required a good bit of effort with both hands to get it open. As a last resort I disassembled it and removed one leg of the coil spring to make it easier to depress the latch. Fixed the problem.

Maybe I'm dense but I don't see how it can be done. It really makes my MKIII's with the little button!

One-hand release means the ability to drop the magazine using the same hand that is holding the gun.
The idea is that in a defense situation, a thumb button magazine release allows an empty magazine to be dropped free while the off hand reaches for a loaded magazine and inserts it. Fine in that situation, if you are confronted with a couple of dozen killers or miss with all the shots from the first magazine.
But in a .22 pistol used for target and plinking, there is no real need for a one-hand release. Few people would carry a Ruger .22 pistol for defense or need a quick magazine change at the range (targets don't shoot back).

Okay that makes sense. Dont know why but I was imagining some weird contraption and didnt even think about heel mag release.

I very much agree with RC. I have my dad's old Mk I, I don't need it to run like an assassin tool. I have my 1911 conversion if I really want to be tactical and silly. (I mostly use it to execute tree rats.
