Stripped down my Mark 2 after a visit to the range. Did the usual strip and clean. Noticed an extra part after brushing all the major parts in a pan. It is a 1/16" diameter spring, 1/2" long with a piece of bent metal 3/32" wide by 3/8" long with a bend 1/4" down the 3/8" length. Where do it go? What do it do?

Harmonics, thanks for the quick reply and the site to the diagram. It looks like part # 6+7. Still don't have aclue where it goes.

Parts 50-51 are used to limit firing pin forward movement to enough to fire the cartridge but not enough to hit the edge of the chamber when dry firing the gun. :)

BSlacker, thanks a million. I see where they go. Must be old age. I don't remember seeing those parts before when cleaning the firing pin/bolt. Must be geezing!!!

that is the firing pin return spring, imagine the bolt with the end towards you, the chamber face away from you, there is a small dowel pin that goes through the bolt left-to-right (of vice-versa) it holds the firing pin in place, that small spring with a bent piece of metal sits under the firing pin, the small metal piece braces againts a small cutout in the firing pin channel, and the spring itself will place tension on the firing pin when in place, in short it keeps the firing pin from hitting the primer of a round, or the chamber face if dry fired or dropped. i will try to get a picture for reassembly, and no it is part #11 and 12. hope this helps.

good luck to you an your ruger, those MKII and MKIII never seem to quit running, one excellent pistol, but a little difficult to reassemble if you dont know the "trick" to putting them back togeather...

Icebones,
Thanks for the info and great link!! I've got it back together again.
