I bought a bucket 1400 rounds of Remington 22LR, HP 36 grain ammunition. My Ruger Mark II fails to feed about 5 out of every 10 magazine full rounds. I have 5 magazines and all work equally poorly. I totally cleaned my Ruger (and got it back together thanks to YouTube). Cleaning the gun did not improve its performance with this ammunition at all. Most of the rounds seem to fail as they enter the magazine ramp. Are there some 22 ammunitions (like this Remington) that this gun model simply will not run?

Over the years I have very little success with any Remington .22LR ammo in any of my guns. Way too many misfires, failures to feed, and failures to eject (when they did chamber and fire), has made me give up on their ammo. In bulk .22LR ammo I get good performance with Federal and among the more reliable and accurate brands, CCI MiniMags and Wolf Match Target.

I stopped using the Remington rimfire ammunition because of all the different inconsistencies. The main thing I observed was the difference in powder charges. Some would go poof and others would be normal. Years ago I had a case rupture in my single shot right in front of my face. That felt good. No more for me. I would recommend getting a hold of some CCI mini mags for testing and see if that has any difference in performance. Did it work in the past? If its a new issue then we should be able to nail down the cause with some testing.

You might want to pick up a box or two of the CCI mini mags and try them. If they all work with no problems the issue is likely the Remington ammo. If the problem still happens with the CCI's it is most likely an issue with the gun.. Do you have a rile or other gun that you can use the Remington ammo in?

A new magazine fixed my feeding problems with my Ruger MK1 when using Remington 22LR, HP 36 grain ammunition from Walmart.

Had 2 boxes that had bullets not fully formed. Never seen that before in all my years. Wish i had taken photos.

The Remington bulk is absolute crap, as low a quality as it can be and still be considered ammunition. As mentioned CCI makes decent plinking ammo, and really any of the decent quality high velocity stuff will be ok for plinking. I have a Mk 1 and a new 22/45 Lite and they work fine with Eley Match and CCI minimags.

I guess I am really lucky, I haven't had a problem with ANY .22 LR ammo in any of my .22 autolaoders. Ruger 10/22, Sig 522, Ruger 22/45, and Ciener conversion on 1911's. Am I just lucky? (I do have to clean and lube after 3 or 4 hundred rounds.)

The last trips to the range I have been dipping into my cache of Remington Golden Bullet .22 LR HV HP, the ammo everyone seems to diss.
I bought the ammo in bulk pack boxes a decade ago and repacked it in delabelled recycled 100 and 50 round plastic boxes. (ADDED: I have not bought the Remington ammo sold in a bucket.)
I have had 100% feed-fire-eject with my Ruger Mark II pistol and Remington Nylon 66 rifle.
I do strip and clean both guns once a year whether they need it or not. In between times with the Ruger I lock the bolt open and wipe out the fouling with a q-tip and #9.

ADDED: The Remington 36gr .22 LR HV HP does have a flat nose, feeds well in my Ruger pistol box magazines(3 by Ruger, 1 by AMT with Ruger spring & plunger) and the Remington and Marlin tube magazines. It does not stack well in my AR-7 or CBC 7022 box magzines so I don't use it in those guns. It also does not feed well from a 12 shot Ramline magazine for my Ruger pistol.
