Ruger Mark II pistol--where to buy online?

I'm looking for a Ruger Mark II .22lr pistol but having trouble finding one in good condition at a good price. I live in Calinfornia so online is probably my best bet--the used gun selection in local shops is minimal. Gunbroker has a few but not many. I found one on GunsAmerica.com, but never head back from the seller when I inquired about it. Any other websites I should check out?

Good luck finding one in good condition that someone is willing to sell - and "good" price is a relative term. I have a MkII Target and IMHO fail to see how the extra features on the MkIII have radically improved the gun.

If you find a MkII - grab all the extra magazines you can find. In my experience they have been difficult to find since the introduction of the MkIII.

Nothing wrong with the MKIII once you remove the LCI and magazine disconnect. I'd like to have a 10" MKII and a MKII 22/45. The MKIII 22/45 grip/frame is just too thin.

Why exactly do you want a MKII?
Like tlen mentioned above, many opt to replace the mag disconnect components with a MKII bushing and remove/disable the LCI. I'm also a fan of the mag catch/release on the MKIII.

The MKIII 22/45 grip/frame is just too thin.

The mag catch can limit your grip options, if you want match-grade grips. Otherwise, it's better.

I have an extended release on my Mark II, and it works fine, as well. The factory one is a bit hard to operate.

I totally lucked out a in fall of 08 when I found a NIB Ruger Mark II in my small town hardware store/sporting goods store. it was sitting on the shelf for 6 years new. It is stainless steel with the longer barrell, and I got it out the door for $325 still new with 2 mags and the ruger box. but deals like that are hard to find. this guy wasnt into putting it on the internet or anything as it was an older store owner that wasnt computer saavy. after 6 years someone just walked in wanting to buy it. I kinda found it by accident when buying some wood screws for fixing my garage door.

I just picked up a Mark II on GunBroker, but I looked at listings for months to find the one I wanted. Which variant do you want? Some (like the pencil-barrel "Standard" models) seem to be a little more available than others. In any case, expect to pay about what a new Mark III sells for, and maybe a bit more. Don't forget www.auctionarms.com either. It's not as big as the other gun auction sites, but I've occasionally found some nice things there.

Yes it is, however, when you take the LCI out you can just remove the metal tab that indexes on the cartridge and reinstall the plastic component so it looks factory but doesn't jam the gun anymore. It is a very simple fix.

Thanks for the feedback. It didn't occur to me that I could remove the "lawyer mods" from the MKIII, which were my reason for going with the MKII. Is the LCI easy to remove, for someone without a lot of tools and gun know-how? If so I'll go with the MKIII, as I'd rather get a new pistol for the same money.

It is easy to remove. Take the barrel/receiver assembly off and turn it over, you will see the pin holding in the LCI. I think the easiest way to take it out is to touch a magnet to the pin and that should be enough to pull it out. If not, you can push in on the LCI to remove tension from the pin then pull with the magnet. When you take the LCI assembly out you can separate the plastic piece from the metal tab. Take out the metal tab and save it, toss it, whatever. Reinsert the plastic piece and you have disabled the LCI and you won't have a hole in the side of your receiver.

The hardest part is disassembling the gun (which really isn't that hard) and you have clear directions in the manual.

Here is a good video on how to remove the magazine safety. I replaced the hammer bushing with a MKII hammer bushing instead of using washers.

Another thing I did was the slingshot mod. If you release the slide from slide lock by pulling the slide slightly rearward and releasing it (slingshot method) you will have to do this modification. Otherwise you have to use the slide stop lever which I don't like doing.

I have three MK II's and will not buy a MK III. I just don't see the need for the LCI, mag disconnect and 1911 styll mag release on the grip. The heal mag release is fine for a target pistol or plinker. I know you can address the lawyer stuff though, but why bother if you can get a MK II. They are around at reasonable prices, you just have to look.

Another method of removing the LCI:
1. Remove barrel from frame.
2. Smack barrel against a piece of wood. The LCI pivot pin should fall out.
3. Other components will fall out.
A strong magnet didn't work with mine.
